Anyone else cut the 'ears' off the base of their glock mags?

After getting really pissed about taking one mag apart (and injuring myself in the process) I decided that these aren't totally required.

The baseplate is still retained by the nub protruding out of the other internal plate, and it seems to be more than adequate to keep everything in place.

Magazine disassembly is a breeze now, base plate slides off no problems once the nub is pressed in.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need to take the mags apart - often enough to modify them?

I'm guessing he practices mag changes a lot at the range. If you drop your mag down on the ground on a regular basis, its probably a good idea to clean them regularly. In my experience, the mags have always been the weakest link in any pistol in terms of reliability

I do clean my mags from time to time, but thats not the primarily reason...

I'd rather not talk about the real reason over the internet.

So do I, and honestly never have had a Glock mag break in competition or otherwise.
1911, Sig, Walther mags on the other hand.....

I know exactly where you are coming from...I too have a small, rectangular ##### and like to have ### with my pistol mags fairly often. It's uncomfortable to discuss in public, but we need the world to accept us as we are. Closets are for brooms, brother!

Magazines are fairly inexpensive, perhaps you could just buy a couple magazines dedicated strictly for your gun, and keep the rest for shooting. That way you're not going back and forth constantly. I'd figure if you wanted the magazine down there, the "ears" would be a good thing.

3/32 punch works great to take off baseplate. I'll try and find that youtube link I saw.

What? No love for the GLOCK tool? :(

That had me rolling.
Finally, someone understands where i'm coming from! :D
