What kind of update, I only posted a couple weeks ago. :)

I think I have settled on 16.5" with scout setup on a 200.

Think you can get a couple lefty actions in the mix? I realize this means no Stevens 200 action (meaning an 11FL action, and thus increased price.)

And thanks for the 16.5" barrel CanAm. I'm shaking my head at all those who want something any half-competent 'smith can do for fifty-bucks.

:D

Dancing banana also sez scope mount only...but he will still dance with a scout mount.

Thanks CanAm. Why must the unobtanium be always too good to be true for us lefties? :D

(On the flip-side... I should be able to buy any LH Savage, and screw on a 16.5" "factory replacement" barrel now. ;))

I'm quite interested, agree with the 200 to keep price down, voted peeps but if they're toooooo high I'd as soon have none, will likely mount a scope anyway. Not a fan of the scout setup because it will cut out a lot of scopes people already have on hand (I have a 1.5-5 leupold variX 3). The scout setup may be enough to keep me out of the game because adding the price of a decent scope with enough eye relief is too much, especially cutting out the option "trial runs" with a scope. Adding the cost of installed scout bases and purchased receiver bases defeats the purpose of the blind magazined 200 IMO... unless I'm thinking wrong on the bases of course...

If a guy's handy with a screwdriver removing the scout base and adding some mounts on the receiver shouldn't be a problem.....15 minute job.

We are looking to do a custom run of Savage rifles in 308 with 18.5" barrels.

Which is of more interest:

Stevens 200 w/"Tenifer" finish ~$399
Savage 11FCNS with detach mag and accutrigger w/"Tenifer" finish ~$599

These will be completely factory guns.

Any other suggestions for options are welcome

When you say "Tenifer", do you actually mean the same finish/treatment as Glock or the crappy matte finish most guns seem to come in these days?

Salt Bath Ferric Nitrocarburizing

To be specific : Salt Bath Ferric Nitrocarburizing aka Tenifer, Melonite, QPQ, Kolene, Tufftride, etc.

Is this the same finish on Savage's LE line, like the model 10FP and the model 10 Precision Carbine?

If you want your wife to be happy slip a diamond ring on her finger, 15 second time. Screwdriver work isnt the issue I'm referring to, it's cost.
I realize one set up can't suit anyone but I'm posting my thoughts on this. After thinking about this through a curling spile I think I'd actually prefer no sights as well, I'd end up putting a scope on it anyway. But for a gun like this I could well be in a minority on that.
