best scope mounts for Sako

If you can find them, these work well too ;)

I know a guy who has a pair on a 222 :D He should take them off & give them to me ;)

go with the leupold qrw bases, have to call the custom shop to get a matched pair for the Sako, but then you can use the leopold prw rings and be done with it :D

Clayton,
I have evolved over the years from Optiloks for the reasons REmbo states to Burris bases and signature rings. You are probably mounting a euro scope with a big eye piece and just about all the ones I've tried over the years bump the base. I run a Zeiss Conquest and can't use optiloks, so for me Burris is the best.

Haven't tried the Warnes or Talleys though.

Actually,I am looking into the Burris bases, since they look very strong. As for the scope,it may surprise you Martin, but I will be mounting a VXII 4x12x40AO.I have Leupolds on my Rimfires and varmint guns, but I won't use them on my big game rifles. For big game hunting,I use scopes that offer better low light performance.

I found a set of the double dovetail Burris mounts.Clay has/had a set,so the decision has been made,it will be Burris double dovetail mounts, and either Burris or Leupold double dovetail rings.

I know the older Burris ring screws were smaller. A buddy of mine broke a screw on his set & tried to use a screw from a set of Leupolds I had & it was too big. Maybe the newer Burris rings are the same now?

I have used both, the windage screws on the screw type rear bases are interchangeable. As far as the screws on the rings go,the Leupolds are larger.

Where are you getting these? I called Stoeger and they laughed at me...

Blargon,

I got my fist set when my gunsmith built my Sako m75 Greywolf 338-06AI - I was surprized initially since I was use to the 2 piece Optilocks. Then I bought another set just to have for my next project rifle.

Colane Sports / Rocky Mountain Rifles in Dawson Creek had a few sets but I dont think so anymore.

Hard to find.

RMR didn't have any last month when I called them.

I looked in to getting the one piece optilock ring mounts because I wanted to mount a 36mm scope lower than the regular optilocks would allow. No one seems to have them in Canada. There are a couple of outfits selling them on line in the US, but they don't ship to Canada. I don't think there's any legal barrier to exporting them, so if you know someone in the states you could just have them send them along.

I think you could have them mailed to Canada from Europe - I found one outfit in the UK that would do it for sure, but I can't find the link now. Here's a place in Sweden. I'm sure they could communicate in English.

If someone wanted to bring in a bunch I'm sure they'd go fast on the EE here.

In the end, I went with Conetrols instead, although that ended up being quite a pain as well.
