Has anyone seen the new 1911 Reliable is carrying for $649.99? From what i can google, they are made in turkey and come from IAC imports.

In my opinion, the Regent 1911A1
.45 is, without doubt, the best
automatic of this type on the market
today for under $800.00."

Looks kinda promising for the price and isn't a Norinco. I might have to take a trip down to Fraser st. to look for myself. :D

Handled one at one of our local gunshops last week. I'd go a few bucks more and get the Auto Ord GI model over this pistol.

NAA.

I handled one today, decent quality finish all of the essential GI elements, if you're looking for a GI shooter they'd probably do well for you. The machining and metal finish seem better than a Norcs (no visible tool marks or aberrations) decently tight and fairly smooth with a serviceable trigger. Didn't appear to have a front sight though (I'm finding that's common on handguns these days):D

Nice looking gun but the frontstrap looks a bit "blocky" to me

Cant imagine it doing anything that a Norinco cant do however(at about $300 less)

But isn't that the norinco argument against all 1911's? They do the same job for less. A lot of high end companies are subcontracting some of there lower end guns to good quality Turkish factories. I think turkish quality has really gone up. I wouldn't be surprised if the fit and finish is higher than any norinco.

Glad you posted pics. Appearance looks great, but then for $150 more, you are in STI Spartan territory, and that puppy can really shoot. Never bought any firearm from Reliable, but you may want to ask them if they have a demo unit to try out. Maybe one of the employees owns one and will let you shoot it. Unless you get to shoot one, I would'nt take the chance. Better to spend the extra bucks and consider some of the makes suggested by those who posted.
So far, the guys posting on your thread may have touched one but no news yet on anyone shooting it. If someone credible, like NAA, tells you its accurate, then its accurate. It will then have the performance to match its good looks.
Good luck shopping and don't forget to post what you purchased w/ your range impressions too. Happy shooting!!!!!

Handled one today at Phoenix... very nice (especially for the price). It's a totally classic, stock m1911-a1 and has a really nice smooth action and a decent trigger. Unlike the Norcs I've handled, this pistol felt really "tight", very little lateral movement in the slide. I'm seriously considering buying it.

Oh, and as for the front sight, it has the classic tiny 1911 GI front sight but a guy at the store told me their expecting another batch of these in, apparently with a more modern sight setup (he may have said adjustible, I'm not sure).

Excellent! I think you should buy one for sure. For the collective good of our community of course! :) I'm gonna try to hold one this week atleast. Even though I'm not aloud to buy anymore guns til the gunshow. Which is at the TRADEX ON THE 5TH!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!

don't know how accurate the info is, just played with one this morning, and according to the guy at the gun counter, they are made in china, assembled in turkey, and stamped accordingly. apparently, it is a way to get chinese into the states. he didn't actually say that they come from the norinco factory, but his words were "they are the same thing, more expensive".
again, don't know if this is true or not. the guy has never steered me wrong before.
personally, i don't like the feel of the one i held, or the couple norinco examples i've seen. i know a lot of people like them, just not for me, i guess.

They are not the same as norinco. This topic has been debated on a few forums and the people in the know say they share nothing with norinco. This was just a rumor. I'm at work right now, but ill try to post the link I found debating this topic later tonight.

This one is different from the Norincos on many details. And I don't think the Chinese would make so many new toolings just for one small customer.

assuming that the "chinese parts channeled via Turkey" is a feasible workaround - and it sounds like it could be - how then would the entire USofA be "one small customer"..? if they're a small customer, we Canadians are a gnat on a dead squirrel in central park.

Before they become a success in USA (which I doubt could happen), they are a small customer, IMHO. The Chinese sell millions of small arms to African and South Asian conflict countries and I am using those customers for comparison.

After handling and field stripping one id say the Regent is better than the norinco, the fit and finish on both the ones I handled were awesome. The only thing I didnt like was the plastic grips.
