I recently bought this from a fello CGN'r and I'm now in search of those detach sling swivels and a couple other questions. ;)

Where can I find the swivels in Canada ?
Is there supposed to be some kind of spring clip also that helps hold the swivels in place?
Is there a proper Mossy sling ?

Havlin Sales in USA. Google as they have a site . I have not been able to find any in Canada in the last 4 years, even at gun shows. Original slings are very rare, made of leather. the sling swivels are a two piece and twist into place. The pressure holds them in .

The mossy is a great gun, I have 3 of the 151, a 152 and 144LSB.. The 151s are fussy on ammo tho. seem to like the solids over the rough hollow points. Keep 'em clean. I use mine as a gopher gun and shoot out to 100 yards with them. very accurate guns. A lot of fun if you can find the original peep sights. The peeps sell for more than the gun does.

I see Numrich also has them and looks like they sell the 2'nd piece of the swivel separate . ( prefer to buy Canadian , but ...)
As far as a sling , then it's either a good ol' '07 sling or maybe a webbed Garand sling ;)
...I'll just have to keep an eye out for the Mossy sling.

The action looks similar to the Stevens 87 series rifle ( I have an 87C and 87M )and I know quite well how abit of gunk can be so frustrating ...thx for the headsup !
I've been using CCI Blazer ammo , as of late . I don't think there's going to be any probs there.

...another ???
This rifle is also tapped for a sidemount.
Did they come out of the factory D/T'd for a side mount as well as for the peeps ?

My model 51 1938 Flatback (rare) has the side mount holes no slots and 2 holes for the peep sight. and quite a few of the early model rifles all showed a scope mounted in the pictures, so I imagine either could be mounted. Neither of my 151Ms (a)1947 and (b)1948 are D&Ted for the side mount but they are slotted for a scope on the top of the action.. Could be the former owner(s) did it or had a smith do the D&Ts.. But the gun would have to be altered as why have the holes if the gun is already slotted which yours obviously is?? I do prefer the peep sights for close gopher shooting (up to 50 yards) but found that with a 3x9x scope they are deadly out to 100.

My 151M has the rear aperture side mounted on the two holes at the rear of the receiver.

I use Dynapoint GT's for ammo and it will run close to a brick through before needing much of a cleaning. Everything else I tried was far worse for functioning. As WTM says, they are great rifles that are very accurate and full of character. I was thinking about a 10/22 before I bought mine and now the 10/22 is not even on my list.

I need to have a look for some swivels now that you have me thinking about them. Pacific Canvas & Leather has a good quality 1907 repro sling for a very reasonable price and service was excellent when I bought one for my Garand. Maybe I need to order another one, along with a 1912 holster for my 1911.

Looks like then , the sidemount D/T is a privately done job if the other 151M rifles are not so tapped.
I think I'll take up on the advice to check out Havlin's...;)

And yet another question arises..
Did the 151M ( mine is an (a) ) rifles come with a front sight hood ?

From factory, the picture shows a ramp front sight and a hood as well as a rear peep sight. the front hoods were not the best as they caught on branches and clothing etc. and became lost. But they were to protect the fragile front sights.

There are 4 holes drilled on the left side of the receiver? the peep are 2 holes about an inch apart at the rear left hand side of the receiver, the side mount I believe had 2 holes about 3 inches apart further forward.

The side mount that was mounted on your gun is actually used on Cooeys. The 151s used a top slot dovetail mounted scope, like the one in your first picture.. Someone has deliberately put this mount onto your gun. The 2 holes that are to the rear and lower than the 4 holes, are the original peep mounting holes. The rear sight is appropriate to the model . The front hoods are hard if not nearly impossible to come by so I used a Winchester hood to protect the front sights.

The Model 51 I have was D&Ted for the proper Mossy sidemount as there are only 2 holes like in the mount. Real bummer but if the gun shoots great...enjoy it...I sure do. the 1939 Model 51 seems to cycle much faster and cleaner than the 151s.

Havlin has the swivels as well most other parts for most of the old Mossy's.
Great people to deal with. I ordered a scope mount for my 44 US(c) and had the mount at the house in less than a week.
Also, try Federal Gold Match ammo. It's a little pricey but well worth it. My model 44 shoots five shot groups that are one ragged hole at 25 yards with peep sights.
Your model 151 M depending on whether it's an (a) (b) or (c) was made from 1946 thru 1958. The front sight was either hooded or ramped and peep sights were also available as was the scope.
Have fun and enjoy the rifle. They're excellent shooters especially for the money!
