I need some binos for 3D archery and the hefty amount of walking means lightweight equipment is key. If I can cut the binos in half that saves a good bit.

But, what's the good and bad on the monocular setup? Anyone have any experience or feedback?

This is the only guy I know of who used one.

Seriously though, I had a cheap one once and it was a pain in the butt to look through. No depth or something, and it was cheap. Get some quality binoculars and don't look back.

"I do," says the monopoly guy.

In all seriousness, I tried one way back when, really did not like it. However, I do occasionally use my rangefinder as a sort of monocular (Leica). There has been the odd time when bowhunting that I will skip the binos and just take the rangefinder. That said, the glass on your rangefinder better be good, so as to properly view game at longer distances.

Ya I'm a little worried about 3d perception. But I can get that just by looking at it too. Basically all I need it for is to sight where the edges of the scoring circles are.

Might just get some 6-8x42-50 type binos though.

Really thinking about Vortex..... mmmmm.

On some birder forums there were good reviews of (I think 6x32) sized binoculars which would probably fit your need while being small and lite weight. I'm thinking Leupold but I might be wrong. Optics Planet usually has some pretty good customer reviews. Camera Land is one of our sponsors and usually has awesome prices on demos that are like new from what I've read. Lots of different brands also.

Camera Land won't sell rifle scopes to Canadians but will sell and ship them to New Zealand, yet he advertises here on gunnuts. What's up with that?

They will sell binoculars and spotting scopes to us. There is some U.S. law that is pissy about rifle scopes being sold to us. Blame Clinton would be my guess.

State Department.

Same garb. coming out of the UK, retailers not allowed to export r.scopes more than 4x.

As if Al Queda would be shopping for r. scopes from US and UK retailers, never seen a Tailiban with a scoped AK47, Iran can manufacturer anything they need, N. Korea buys Chinese. These policies accomplish absolutely nothing, US State Dept officials must still be under the impression the 911 terrorists came from Canada.

Germany and Japan produce some of the best Optics in the world, Russian and Chinese equipment is more than adequate for Bin Ladens needs.

What's the point of screwing Canadians over with these policies?
