Sent it off to Ellwood Epps for a new 20" Douglas #2 1:10 barrel...
Also picked up a synthetic stock set for it...
Got it back last week, blasted all the metal with aluminum oxide, then sprayed with arma-coat, then popped it in the oven...

In Rem mod 760 the bolt engages the barrel directly. I never heard that Remington made this model in 338 cal. To copy internal partial thread engagement in the barrel outside the factory borders on imposible. How Epps did it? BTW to fully use the lenght of an action and magazine space the 338-06 would be more appropriate. Last question, what kind of coin would such conversion cost? Congratulation on the project, the rifle looks way better than the new one!

Actually, its quite easy. The barrel and lug are 2 pieces. The barrel threads into the lug, and the bolt locks into the lug, not the barrel.

I realize they are all long actions, but I've been using one in .308 for 20+ years, and it hasn't bothered me yet. Now I can seat heavy bullets out far enough that the base will be at the bottom of the neck, instead of in the powder. I don't really need a .338-06 deer rifle.

225gr Interlocks with a COL of 2.95". :)

PM for cost.

Should be a good little bush rig. Moose will hate it too.:D

Nice sparkles, my wife's 338 Fed wears the same paint.:p

I like the textured stuff, but I'm not sure why they sparkle it...:D

I originally did it in black textured, but it was too disco looking...:p

You're forgiven. ;)

Some rifles just look wrong w/o sights. Carbines, levers and pumps just to mention a few.

.

Have to disagree w/ ya there paul ol'boy....
I took mine off the carbine...find it looks way better!!

But then again we dont live in a province where you might be in the mountains on a 7 day hunt & your scope fails.

Personal Preference Though 4 Sure!!

The gun looks great:)

Looks to be very durable. How do you go abouts this?
Aluminum oxide and arma-coat is bought over the counter?
I have a Rem 700 bolt and would be interested in trying this.Is there a link or site I can view to do this yourself:D

GunKote, Duracoat, Armacoat - all different brands of coatings, but are all basically applied the same way. Do a search on here and google. Armacoat can be air cured (no oven) but it takes 3 weeks to cure and I didn't have the patience to wait that long...:D

Aluminum Oxide can be bought at Princess Auto, 50 lbs for $44, and the Armacoat I bought from a sponsor on here, TSE (The Shooting Edge). 1 package will do 2 or 3 rifles.
