I've been invited to join the local IPSC group and I have no clue what I'm going to need. Here's what I have already in semi:

Guns:

Baby Eagle 9mm not polymer, 2 mags
M&P .40 2mags
M213 Tokarev 2mags
Walther P22 2 mags

Gear:
Blackhawk holster, fits the M&P
3x blackhawk mag pouches
LEE turret press for 9mm and .40S&W

The baby eagle is by far the best gun of them all, at 25 meters I can keep 3-6 inch groups with it. The M&P is just all over the board, I can hardly keep it on paper at 25 meters but I think they're going to recommend that I use that because it's lighter. Any advice for a noob shooter?
 
Use the Baby eagle get a nice DOH holster.

The M&P might be all over the place due to is polymer construction. Its light weight results in greater felt recoil not to mention the fact that it is .40.
Get yoruself 3 more mags for the eagle and you are good to go after the holster.
 
If you shoot the Eagle well, use it...as long as it's reliable, you don't get time exemptions for jams. Grab a couple more mags for it, 5 total would be good, load up some 9mm and have fun!
 
DOH as in drop leg? I think I'll stick with the deagle but I have this nagging thought in the back of my mind, will it be slower than the M&P due to its weight?

lol...if you were using one of the big Desert Eagles, maybe. Trust me, your speed issues on the course and afterwards have nothing to do with the weight of the gun. I've shot everything from a Glock to a 54oz Para O Open gun (thats nearly 4lbs) and never saw a big difference in draw times.
 
Way back when ('70's) IPSC was designed to be practical and holster should be what you would really carry a gun with i.e. concealable. So belt and shoulder holsters (vertical) were the rule.

Ok we are in 2010 now why no dropleg holsters Kinda cool to have:D:D
 
While the rules have been adjusted to remove things like shoulder holsters scenarios, stage names and targets that represent the practical basis of the game...they still claim it to be "practical" so belt holsters are the rule (yeah, I know the modern race holster is not practical)
 
Whichever gun you'll chose, you'll need at least 4 mags (5 or 6 will be better) and minimum 3 mag pouches (4 would be better).
In Canada you'll also have to take the Black Badge course and your BB instructor supposedly will tell you what gear you'll need.
I'd recommend using 9mm (minimum caliber in IPSC), because ammo is cheaper, especially if you are planning to shoot a lot.

Did you not read what I wrote?

The M&P is not "bad"...
However the poster indicated that he was BETTER with his Beagle..

Thus it would be better for him to use it overthe M&P

Not to mention the .40 caliber of HIS M&P in particular is not really useful in IPSC unless you are going to reload for production division as it has no advantages and a few disadvantages.

Then I went on to speculate on a possible reason for his lack of accuracy with his M&P compared to his beagle.
