So I'm running MBUIS with an EoTech. For the most part I haven't paid much attention to setting up their relationship in detail. I just turn on the red-dot and the bullet goes where I aim. Recently I added a YHM Eotech riser. I felt I could use the extra height, and it's true I do like it up higher it's more comfortable.

Anyway now I notice my red-dot is higher on the front sight and my rear sight is too low to see through the Eo glass... How should I set this up, what do you guys recommend, I would hate to get rid of the YHM riser...??? If my Eo was to ever fail in a stress situation I would be screwed, I wouldn't be able to utilize my MBUIS until I removed the Eo...

Advice please... ;)

site in you buis. Add the optic. Position dot fractionally over the top of front post. Flip down rear site and the dot will now appear higher than the front post. Should be good to go. Basically you only site in the irons and move the red dot to line up with the irons.

I like to do it the other way around because my reflex sight is the primary.

I will zero my aimpoint or eotech. And then flip the rear and adjust front site post until it stops at the desired spot of the dot for the zeroing range you would like to have.

Then I will confirm the zero with live rounds.

Think about it, which one is the primary, and which one is more precise?

The irons should be more precise depending upon the site radius no? The dot can vary alittle bit depending upon its size and what setting you have it cranked up to.

I do it this way:

I zero in my irons, then flip them down.

Then I install my EoTech and zero it for the same range.

Viola! Your sights are 100% co-witnessed with no guess work.

I find the dot more accurate and quicker, no lining up two sights. Just put the dot on target, ignore the irons and thats where you will hit.

quicker sure, but long range arent irons more accurate as the larger dots can obscure the target and distort abit?

I still use my aimpoint over the irons though on my ARs

The front site post is like over 10MOA on the longest rifle whereas the dot is 4MOA max.

Why will you use your back up system to guide the primary system?

The dot on my Eotech is 1 MOA. Thats a heck of a lot smaller than my front blade.

Just how far are you shooting?

OK but my rear sight isn't high enough to use through the glass, any suggestions, or do I just have to get rid of the riser?
lol, nobody want to answer you ?

quick detach or thumb screw are the only way = if your optic goes down, remove it.

The Magpul dvd told me that this is the only way to do it. Irons sited in first and red dot adjusted on top! Surely magpul cant be wrong can they? :D:eek:

In the past I did it your way with great results.

have you tried to see how it all looks without the riser?

Yeah without the riser my MBUIS are perfectly in-line with Eo...

That sounds like the only solution, can you get the thumb screws separate? or perhaps a QD hardware piece to add to my YHM riser??

tommorow will try 200 with the irons.

In theory my 1 MOA dot would cover 2 inches at 200 yards. Not a big deal. The front post would obscure more of the bottom of the target than an EoTech.

Don't get me wrong, irons are great. Just look at the 600 yard shooting they do down at camp perry with irons.

I feel an EoTech or Aimpoint are superior both in speed and accuracy. That could easily be personal preference on my part.
