remington safety problem

I recently purchased a remington 58 sportsman semi 12 ga. and im having some problems with the safety AFAIK its very similar to the 870 trigger assembly

When I #### the hammer, engage the safety,and then pull the trigger firmly, sometimes the hammer will drop when i click the safety off
I can also drop the hammer with the safety on if i wiggle the trigger side to side, or give it a jerk backwards.

A friend of mine has a few thoughts but id like to see what you guys think. Im assuming that its just worn parts, but i dont know where to start.?

I'm not sure about the exact mechanism of this particular safety, but I would think the safety may have been installed incorrectly. Perhaps flopped, rotated 180 degrees?

I dont think its flopped, it does work, just not all the time or with any consistancy.

its the same cross bolt safety as all the 870's

Did you ever figure out the problem with your trigger group? Did you take it apart yet?

Off hand, I can't think of anything else but worn, or chipped sear/hammer engagement surfaces, maybe broken, or out of place sear spring??

havent got her fixed yet. at the range yesterday i also had issues with the bolt release not releasing the bolt when depressed....
sigh, time to take it to a pro i guess

turns out that the part of the trigger that interferes with the crossbolt was worn down, and allowed trigger movement.
