My 10 year old son is doing his science fair project on ballistics of the 308 caliber rifle comparing wind drift and trajectory of bullets of the same weight (almost) and approximate same velocity but having differing BC's.

Not going to be overly complex and firing will take place at 100, 200 and 300 yards.

Federal factory ammo will be used with the 168 gr match king and 165 grain Barnes. Federal data shows the initial velocity to be the same and with weights within 3 grains it should be good.

Firing results will be compared to the data as provided by Federal.

The best part of this is that the school is fine with it. Obviously no rifle or ammo will be there however there will be targets, photos and projectiles.

Hopefully the day we shoot has a fairly predictable and steady wind....

Sounds awesome - way cooler than any science fair project that I ever did, although I will never forget the guy that tried to show how you could get electricity from an orange
Good luck I hope you get some good conditions for your testing.

Great stuff. IF interested, I would happy to donate a Bryan Litz book to this cause.

Just PM me your mailing address and your sons name and I will get a copy out to him shortly.

I bet his display will get alot of interest.

Good luck...

Jerry

Very generous...thank you.

I take it a Coyote will be launching said .308 projectiles? :D

Oddly enough it will not be....I will use my M15STS hunting rifle....we do not have any demo coyotes around now only new. Would have been nice though:)

Great,,

Finally a science fair project that would be interesting,, when I was a kid I had do a project on " how milk reacts with stomach acids", to this day I can hardly drink milk. LOL

Can't wait to see the results, nice to see a Father and son getting out together, doing homework, and having fun at the same time.:)

Just a thought but any chance of getting a normal SP flat base bullet to add to your mix? The two have very similar BC's and the drift may not really show up that well at 300yds.

Add a 170gr FN and the demonstration will be very obvious.

Jerry
