New 1911 @ Reliable gun??????

I'd like to see a range report.

I have a friend in the States who compared an average Norinco 1911 to his Colt Gold Cup in a Ransom Rest, and the Norinco was more accurate than the Gold Cup.

Looked at it at Reliable, it was junk. Also looked at the Springfield for $900, the Trojan and the S&W 1911...JUST PICKED UP THE s&w 1911 today. Haven't shot it yet but read really good reviews on it.

The Edmonton dealers seem to all have then in stock now, so I played with a few when I was up there yesterday. Nice enough gun.... The grips are down right funny. I honestly think they bought them from a toy gun factory down the street... I would say the fit and finish are a little better than the newer Norincos (if you like parkerizing), but I would not say that these guns are worth twice the price of a Norinco. Not even close. If these guns sold for $50 more than a Norc, then I would say buy one. But at $650 (give or take a bit), I'd say pass and buy a nice Norinco plus a few hundred rounds of ammo to practice shooting with.

i handled one recently and didn't like the feel or finish of with, the handgrip felt all wrong, norinco to me at least feels like a more reliable piece. though i've never shot a regent so i can't comment on function

??

don't know how accurate the info is, just played with one this morning, and according to the guy at the gun counter, they are made in china, assembled in turkey, and stamped accordingly. apparently, it is a way to get chinese into the states. he didn't actually say that they come from the norinco factory, but his words were "they are the same thing, more expensive".
again, don't know if this is true or not. the guy has never steered me wrong before.
personally, i don't like the feel of the one i held, or the couple norinco examples i've seen. i know a lot of people like them, just not for me, i guess.

I had also heard that these were norcs and this is how they get them to the US

Not Norcs

They aren't norcs. I checked out some blogs on them after reading another CGN post about them. The biggest difference is that the Norc has a forged frame and the Regal has a cast frame (from what I read). One post by a guy who stripped one said that many of the internals looked like castings as well. He seemed to favor cast internals.

saw one at shooters choice today, have to say i wasnt impressed, the grips do indeed look like they were made in a toy factory and the frame is weirdly angular in the grip area, just felt really awkward in my hands, not a fan
