Hey all, I picked up my new to me AIA m10 b1 sport yesterday from a nice fellow gunnutter. The purpose of this rifle is going to be for moose hunts,
The gun is great..except the giant sharp square mag that pokes you in the ribs if you carry it slinged over your shoulder.
Does anyone know of an aftermarket flush (or at least shorter) mag for the AIA's? or suggest another solution? thanks

Get a five round M14 mag. You'll need to modify it slightly to make it function smoothly.

I needed to file the bottom side of the retaining tab on the back a little bit and they fit and fed just fine. Those were 5 round m14 mags.

ok, thats good news, what are the mods required? something my local gunsmith could do? where do I get an m14 mag?

I don't know the specifics, I've never done it myself. I can say with certainty that without the mod they won't work that well as I tried that just to see. Try contacting the member that I quoted from another thread. I believe Marstar stocks the mags. MAG-036, $20.

Thanks for the update and photo. :)

*Should just make a note here for anyone else doing something similar, obviously any M14 mag will always be required to be limited to 5 rounds.
It really only makes sense to me to do this in his case, where a shorter mag is required/desired for hunting.*

You could probably trade that AIA mag for two 5 round m-14 mags, the AIA mags are in high demand. Post a WTT add on the EE. You will probably get a response within the hour.

trust me I had multiple SWAP offers but I am keeping the AIA mag with the rifle

I love it when s**t happens quick:p
I now have a 5 round M14 mag, the mod took me about 4 minutes and it locks in solidly. I wont be able to check the feed until I get to the range but hopefully it goes good. the new mag is a full inch shorter than the original , it protrudes more than I would like still but better than before.I guess the other option would be to have it cut down to a 3 or 4 round , cut the spring and have the bottom brazed back on.. I think I will live with it like this for now.. here is a pic of it with the 5 round.

One thing you could get is one of the rubber magpulls that cover the bottom of the magazine. They have a little loop so removing the magazine would be easier, and they would remove the sharp edges. Although I am not sure if the five rounds has enough sticking out for the magpull to fit.
