What would be the best longrange target rifle and varmit gun

I am looking at getting into long range 1000 - 1500 yard shooting. I was wondering what the best rifle type and model and caliber is suitable for what i am looking for. I am right handed but shoot left handed, but a left handed bolt guns are very awkward for me to use. I am looking for a caliber that is on the cheaper side to shoot, and i plan on reloading ammunition for it. I would like to use it as a long range target rifle and a long range varmit rifle as well. Also what would be a good scope for this type of rifle?? What do you think of the Zeiss Conquest Rapid Z 1000 for a rifle like this, but maybe they are more designed for the .308 caliber. Would a .223 or a 22-250, ect.. caliber fit what i am looking for or would i be better off going to a .30 caliber or 7mm, ect...

Any suggestions are very much appreaciated.

Assuming PD's are your intended target.

22/250 7 twist pushing 80 and 90gr VLD's

Or 6BR/Dasher pushing 105gr VLD's

A 223 is useable but will get bounced around much more in the wind at those distances. 7 twist, long throat, push 80 and 90gr VLD as hard as possible. Bring lots of ammo.

22 BR is a very nice middle ground with the heavies and can be very accurate.

Build the rifle to competition/F class standards.

Get a Swaro rangefinder.

I like Sightron SIII scopes with the new 8x32 a great option. I would go with the mildot reticle.

MOA base like a Farrell with Burris Sig ZEE rings. Use the inserts to shim the scope for an elevated SR zero.

Tune the whole set up for 1/4 min accuracy and hope for calm air.

If you mean coyotes or similar, then 6.5 or 7mm pushing heavy for cal VLD's at least 2900fps. Muzzle brake is your friend.

1000-1500yds your going to want a high BC cartridge like a 6mmBR, 264wm, 6.5x284, 7mm mag, .300wm or a good old .308 will all do it with the right shooter behind it.

Some of the suggestions above would be OK except the .308. You won't be going anywhere with that as far as 1000-1500 yards goes. Just not enough speed for the higher BC .30 cal bullets to get it out there accurately.

I personally would go with a 6.5 or 7mm configuration of some sort, the .338s are great for long distance but fairly expensive to shoot.

Desert Tactical Arms SRS - you can swap barrel combinations in .243 WIN, .308 WIN, .300 WIN MAG and .338 Lapua MAG. Apparently, conversion takes about 60 seconds. Its supposed to be able to make groups under 6" at 1,000 yards. The .338LM will get you out there and .243WIN would take care of any vermin at a reasonable cost. The overall length is about 38" and the barrel length is 26". From a utility point of view, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Optimistic shooting

If you hit Prarie dogs at 1500 you'd best post video, I know I'd like to see that. That's a pretty small target for that yardage.
If you'd have said 1000 yards you'd have had more options but 1500 is gonna be tough to do with that much accuracy.
.338 is expensive to feed and designed for shooting men not pd's.
.308 I don't think will reach accurately enough for that.
Maybe a 7mm type cartridge, .284 winchester type, watch for barrel life in magnums.
Possible consideration might be winnie short mag. good speed, decent bullets and cheaper to feed than some of the big magnums.
If shooting 1000 a 6.5-284 would be great as well as the 6BR using 105,108's.

Before you run off half-cocked and buy or build yourself a new rifle why don't you hone your shooting skills and technique? It sounds to me you need a good coach to teach you how to shoot porperly. I can't imagine what you're doing now would ever be condusive to consistency.

Using your rifle in a manner that is contrary to its inherent design is akin to pissing against the wind.
 
I got the impression that the OP wanted a precision rifle to shoot vermin at shorter distances, but also be capable of shooting out to 1,500 yds accurately - hence my suggestion to consider the Desert Tactical Arms SRS. I don't think you're going to see any accuracy at 1,500 yds, unless using at least .338LM. .408 Cheytac would be the best for that distance, but not for vermin. Somewhere, you're going to have to compromise.

Hitting PD at distance WELL beyond 1500yds is done every year. Check out the Varmint Masters distance classes. They go to at least 1 mile and I think they are now into the 2000yds distances.

Now I said HIT a PD. I never said HOW OFTEN :50cal:

Or how many rds it would take to do it
