Was in a Gun store in Tampa FL. today and considering a Gen 4 G17 with 3 mags is $440, I thought this was a little high for a used Norinco.

Norinco and all Chinese made firearms have been banned from import to the US since 1993 or so, they could be considered "rare" down there. When you look at them, we get a really good deal for what we get with the Norinco's. The frames and slides are very good steel and are probably worth the 350 we pay alone.

That said I would not pay $500 for a Norc.

I have seen posts in some of the 1911 Forums were guys have paid between $1000-$1500 for a bone stock Norc 1911 and many post threads to buy them and are more then willing to pay that for them.

Smuggled in no doubt.

Why anyone would want or own one of those Chi-com, reverse engineered 1911's is beyond me. To find one in the US after they have been banned, and for good reason, is, well, rare to say the least.
But, whether they are there or here, they are still Chi-com junk. Some people will buy anything! Just more money so the freakin red, rat b@stard Chi-coms can buy an aircraft carrier to threaten the West. Support the Chi-coms at our peril.

Its called globalization.Make everything in china for as little as possible, sell for as much as possible in the developed world.Your politicians and business leaders don,t seem to mind that.Maybe you should rant on a few of them.

You're so right. Anyone who wants a traditional standard issue 1911 should instead run out and pay $3000+ for the latest Kimber pro tactical elite warrior wannabee, then buy aftermarket parts to downgrade it to original specs.

That'll stop their carrier force for sure!

Wish we could get some with that Lanyard loop and GI rep grips like that one !

And given the $'s Norcs are going for up here on the EE lately.......500 isn't so bad IMO ;)

Agreed.

Some guys don't know enough about 1911s to evaluate whether Norincos are good or bad.

Other guys can tell whether a Norinco is a good base gun or not.

If there are enough of group 2 in the US, then the price of Norinco handguns will begin to exceed other options, unless the Norinco is no good.

In my experience, the Norincos are an excellent base for a 1911. I believe that is why so many knowledgeable 1911 guys in the US who have access to a lot of different options choose them.

Or, maybe a couple of Canadians on the internet know more than the US gun market, that's also possible.

It has nothing to do with whether Norinco is junk or not, it's the country of origin that's a problem for me.

I, unlike many others go out of my way to by things made in North America. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I like to support my national economy before I send a bunch of money overseas. Some things obviously can't be avoided, but for those items that can, I would prefer something from Canada first, America second and any other democratic, non **** hole country third.

I guess that just makes me one of "those" guys.

Politics aside the Norinco 1911's and some of the other Norincos seem to have a pretty faithful following and a higer degree of respect for the product down south then they do up here. And for the Americans to seek out and lust over a Chinese product it would suggest that they find them to be of good quality. Or at least of that era they were of good quality. For a country that values their 1911's that would seem to say something.

Pick up the keyboard you just typed that response on and read the word that comes after"Made in.."

Please let us know the name of the Canadian company that made that.

Even if this argument you make is a little bit valid, the firearms market accounts for maybe MAYBE, for 0.1% of the trade with China and Canada, even smaller for the world.

Its almost impossible to not "support" china. Most things contain part manufactured or produced in China. TV's, computers, camera's, I bet that even the "American" auto maker have a large portion of the components made in China.

Relax brother, if you want to support Canada product, fine, go buy Para, but Para didn't care you, they went south, then you want to support North America product, but they don't REALLY care about Canada market, go figure what you should get, take a look everything inside your house, everything was made in China, part of the money earn by bloody Chinese Com but most of the money was earn by North America and Japan company because they made their product in China, as for the North America gun, don't you think they will care about your purchase? I don't think so.

I have had a Norinco 1911 and a rimfire rifle -mauser copy in .22lr. I really liked the rifle, smooth action, accurate, well made with the exception of my front sight. The 1911 I did not like at all....jam,jam,jam. Very rough finish, not that accurate, mind you it was completely stock. Im on the fence about Norinco

Lay off the bong water for a while. Tell us exactly was it wrong with the Norinco 1911s. Before you do, remove all the chinese parts from your PC too.

When the f**k are these anti Chinese posts going to go away?
