Thinking of getting one of these rifles (.308, synth stock) as an all around deer/black bear rifle that can double as mountain goat/elk/moose.

However, it seems a little heavy (7.5 lbs) and long (24" barrel), so I'm unsure as to how it will do in the BC coastal bushes...

If you use it for hunting do you find the size and weight to be an issue?

I tried the Savage 11fcxp3 (non-AccuTrigger) but didn't like it too much. Have to try the Marlin XS7.

Thanks!

I use a 7MM RM Vanguard and I find the weight and length to be a bit much. The barrel always hangs up in these dense forests of the west coast. I am not very tall,so short arms, and I find it very difficult to hold a steady aim off hand because of its length. Accuracy is great. Trigger needs work. Also, if you see something while driving in to your spot, not having a detachable mag sucks. However depending on caliber weatherby is offering detachable mags.

I've got one in .223, stainless/synthetic. I like it overall, but it does have a crappy trigger.

I have two- .300 win mag., and .223 Both s/s. Ya they're a little heavy and i'd definately buy the compact. As far as the trigger - that's not they're biggest downfall it's the stock, you'll want to float that barrel for sure. Unless you buy a sub-moa. Most find the trigger horrible, i can tollerate it for now.

I have one in .300 Weatherby. I bought it with the intention of swapping the stock for a laminate and also traded the trigger for a Timney. I like it more than some of my rifles that cost considerably more.

I have had three Vanguards, one in 30:06, .223 and my current shooter in .257Wby.
All of them are good shooters and the factory target was the deciding factor on the purchase of each.
I bought my first one in 2006 and the 30:06 was and is a shooter, the target had all three bullet holes touching and I could duplicate that myself.
I was useing 165 grn Remington Core Lokts too.
The .223 was a little bit less and the .257 is not as good as the 30:06, but I like the sound of that one when I pull the trigger.
As for the weight, well I hump it around all day long and it does get heavy, so I just lighten the day pack ...
trigger is adjustable, or you can buy a Timney if you like.
Go see the guys at Italians and ask to see the target from more than one rifle in your choice of Caliber, they will be more than happy to assist you and the prices are pretty close to what is being charged across the rest of the country, especially when you factor in shipping and insurance.
