I have been looking in the edmonton area for some time for the sks "duck bill" mags with no success, I have found the AK/SKS-D mags there are lots, now the question??? do I modify my rifle to accept the AK/SKS-D mags? or mod the mags to fit the rifle? here is what I came up with!

this is the unmodified on the left and my handywork on the right

grind off the original hold tab off the back and add my own

grind-sand-file material off the top and side plates of the mag, also open up the back for the bolt to pass through, take off front material at an angle just to fit

a bit of material from the front towards the top back of the mag, add a duckbill made from 14ga plate and your done

about an hour and a half later, add some blue and oil, Done!

looks great and yes pinned to 5!:50cal:

Sir, you have peaked my interest into this. I may look into this on my own. Where did you find you AK mags?I would like to try this with the shortty mags myself.

I also wonder if CZ-858 mags can also me modified the same way.

Also when you said "grind-sand-file material off the top and side plates of the mag" did you mean the magazine lips?

Have you tried to load them with stripper clips while inserted into the rifle?

I bought my mags at P&D here in Edmonton, a bit steep in price $39 for the 5/5 round and $79 for the 5/30 round, as for the cz-858 mags the ones I have come accross are aluminum and not the best choice, they are cheap but to fit the cz-858 mag you would have a gaping hole along the back where the tab for the bolt stop is and would have to be removed.:50cal:

So with these modifications, all you have to do is remove the swinging floor plate thing and this clip will just clip right on in to a normal SKS?

Cant wait to hear back from test firing it!

hello

Hi there , I was just wondering how you made the duckbill? I have a drum mag that I am trying to figure out a way to get it to fit my sks!

drum!!

I was wondering who would be the first with a drum!
the only diffrence with the drum is you have to cut about 3/4" x 1" slot through the top of the cover plate for the mag hold tab, some 14ga for the duckbill and your off shooting, zfarm has ak drums in stock as of last week!:50cal:

Moded one for my CZ 858 & love it!

But as for moding 1 for a SKS beg's the question...
Why wouldn't you just buy an SKS Model D?

No moding required.

I already had my drum modded for my cz-858 but sold my cz and kept the drum so I figure I mine as well mod it for my Sks , I already have an old stock I made a cut in for the drum to fit now I just have to make the duckbill!
Zefarm wants alot of money for thier drums I think over $400!!
