Hello Everyone,

Did some more torture testing of 9mm brass for Major loads.

To day I fired the same lot of brass again for the 5th time. Everything worked beautifully. Hardly any pressure signs on the primers, no cracked cases, etc.

The load that I have been testing is Federal small pistol primers, 6.8grs of Longshot, pushing an AIM 124 grain bullet. Power Factor is 166. This load is very soft and accurate.

I am going to try and some other powders. Anybody have any recommendations?

I too am using Longshot in my Open gun which is a Tanfoglio (9x21) though, I have 4 barrel ports and my charge is a little higher than yours but it does shoot really nice. I ordered some Winchester AutoComp to try, am interested in seeing how that works, alot of guys in the US are claiming good results with it. I am sure you know all about HS6, its a joke making major with that stuff, its the old standby for me;) If you are a regular visitor of the BE forums, you might recall some topics on a manufacturer that is making 9mm ammo that makes power factor, it if I recall correctly the powder used was Winchester Superfield, don't quote me, but I am pretty sure that is the powder they use. I'll have to do a search and see if I can find it. I never tried that powder, but I think some guys here used it years ago in their supers. I really have not gone beyond the realm of powders I normally have access to, and I usually stick with what I can get a reliable supply of. Longshot impresses me thusfar, and I am going to stick with it for now, but I will be following your posts with intrest to see what you come up with. Good luck:)
 
I use Vhit 3N37 - I like it.

I've even used IMR 4756.

Hirsch Precision is soon going to be getting thier first shipment of Vhit, so it ought to be a little easier to get too.

i have shot the same brass for the 10th time
R-P 9mm +p
each time i went to the club since i got my 9mm i have shot the same 10 brass just to test
and so for everything is fine

got 7.2 gr of longshot at 1.155 with a small rifle primer gave me 171 at CTM 2010
and my 7.0 gr load gave me 167pf

Who built your gun? Can you post some pics
 
The gun is being built by Cape Custom Gunsmith, http://cape-1911.com/, based in Vancouver. I have been testing the new compensator that he has design for 9MM Major. As soon as the gun is finished, I will post a review on CGN for everyone to look at.

Why are you using Longshot in a 9mm case. Kind of slow burning powder for that, I think.

Longshot would be more suited for something like a 10mm with a heavy bullet, maybe min. 180 grain. You're really not getting the most out of the 9mm, 124g combination. I wouldn't even use Longshot in a .40s&w.
 
The gun has a compensator on it. So I want a slow burning powder that generates a lot of gas, that will also make a major power factor. If HS7 was available I would use that, because I use about 9.5 grains.

As for 40SW. Longshot actually works very well in this caliber with 180gr bullets.

6.5 grains makes a 173 power factor. Very soft to shoot and in my gun an accurate load.

My load for 9 major
Vhit, 3n37- 7.5 gr., oal 1.160 ave. vel 1335
Long shot 7.4gr. 1.180 ave.vel 1355
all of these loads make major, STI TRUBORE bbl

I see you're having a gun built by Cape. Could I shoot 9mm major in my factory single stack 1911 S&W Pro Series?
