Well I went to fire off a few rounds at Target today and ended up buying an SKS and a crate of ammo. How could I resist for under $400 taxes in? I know nothing about the SKS or what the heck I'm going to do with it but I've got one now! Maybe a good coyote rifle?

What do you guys do with yours? Other than blast away at the range I mean...

Nice deal. Could you please tell me where is "target" and how much a crate is going for?
Thank you.

Good rifle. Welcome to the club.

I'd love to post some pics but there is some BS registry problem because of the Russian serial numbers on some of the guns... Apparently some of these guns in the shipment have serial numbers like 12345 and 12346. This is red flagging the computer and they have to straighten out each one over the phone... I'll keep you posted when I hear something.

Well someone else explained what Target Sports is so... I paid 395 all in for the rifle and ammo. The rifle was $169 and the ammo was the rest. I've drank too much to do the math...:D

They are 4 serial numbers, however, if you inform the CFC about it, the serial usually has a letter infront of it. This can count as a "5th digit" and excempt the firearm from the issue of the longer registration, in my experience. The SKS is a great little gun, question, is it legal to shoot coyote with it? I thought bullet size had to be under 6.5mm?

Makes you wonder how they could build millions of rifles with 4 digit serial numbers. Silly Russians... Maybe each brigade or division got a numbered set?

Jeff

In BC you could use a .460 Weatherby if you wanted to. In fact, I'd rather hit one with my 45/70 than my 6.5 just for s**ts and giggles.

Ryan

Maybe if you are a wimp! I use my 577 Tyrannosaur for bunnies mostly but I've vaporized a coyote or two with it... 460 Weatherby is a gopher gun at best...::rolleyes:

That's just silly. If it's true, then god, I hope I see it one day. :)

Until then, a 400gr Hornady jacketed round nose at 1700 or a hard cast 480 at 1500 will have to do for me. I feel like either of those would just wreck stuff but I haven't shot anything other than stumps, rocks, water jugs, trees, ice, a hard drive or two, etc. All with spectacular results.

My SKS shipped this morning. I find it ironic that I am buying an old assault rifle from Toronto and sending it out west... I'm doing my part to reduce the number of guns in the city. I'm good like that.

Mine has 2 letters and 4 numbers behind it. From what I read eaery year they reused the same serial number. not sure about the letters.

When I got mine they said that about half of them go for the review to the CFO. Luckily mine didn't :) took it home the same day!

The Russian SKS typically use a 2 letter, 4 digit serial number. Because the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet do not transliterate to the Latin alphabet easily verifiers here will drop such letters during the import registration process. If a Cyrillic letter can be read as a Latin one it will be used but there is no hard and fast rule about this.

SKS, Mosins, SVT, TT33 etc. will all encounter this from time to time.

Serial numbers with no letters and 5 digits or less typically go for review automatically due to the chance of duplication.

I just drank the SKS cool aid too! 1954 russian from LeBarons'. Laminate stock and a crate of ammo... whoo boy gonna light up the range this weekend.

It is double hitting the numbers in the system that creates an issue. Also if it is from the same importer it is even takes longer. You can wait 3-4 days or call them and straight it out. I call and figure it out right away, this way my client does not have to wait. :)
