i bought an older tc contender in .222 rem and was wondering if i put the rifle stock and rifle barrel on it can i hunt with it or will it still be restricted?

The serial numbered frame is registered as a restricted, therefore a restricted it remains, regardless of physical dimensions. - dan

Sorry. but if it was restricted,then it is restricted fore ever.Or until are great government changes it.
I contacted the cfo and thats what i was told.

alright thanks guys. kinda what i figured. too bad. this with a .30-30 barrel would be a great light rifle for moose hunting. gotta get me an encore. if the receiver is registered as rifle then can i hunt with a pistol barrel on it!?

I *think* you have 30 days to re-register it with the new configuration... but before then, you might decide to put it back to the way it was.....?

As long as the gun is over 26" in length. You only have to re-register if you are changing classifications, not barrel length.

You can order Contender rifles or barrels through any T/C dealer. IIRC, Mystic Precision can order Bergara barrels as well.

I like the light weight and smaller size of the Contender carbine. IMO it would be a great backpack rifle with a .22 LR and a .30-30 barrel. I like the 23" barrels as they put the noise farther from your ears. You hear a doubling in volume at 10db more, but your ears take 10 TIMES the pounding. I'll gladly take longer barrels to help prevent tinnitus.
