I am reliably informed that gunpowder is regulated under the Explosives Act r.s.c. 1990 and that it must be kept in a suitable container...locked...This container needs to be a box of wood 3/4" or more thick with no ferrous fittings.If this is so then where , other than making it, can one get this type of container? or brass locks for that matter

The law only recommends the 3/4 wood as the material of choice. You can build a suitable one from whatever you have handy. Just avoid materials that build static or cause sparks. Don't forget to write "EXPLOSIVES" in big contrasting letters on the box.

I use the crates my 7.62x39mm surplus ammo comes in, it meets all above criteria and already says explosives on it.

I agree what a load of crap.whats a bigger bang a 1 lb can exploding or 6 1lb cans in a wooden box.

i know i sleep better now after i made a wooden box to store my powders in last year.
made a stencil to mark "explosives" on it with as well.
Sits on floor in reloading room.
Before cans of powder just sat in same room on shelves next to my die sets

Just from memory but doesn't the box have to be assembeled with common nails to allow it to come apart easier if under pressure??
If memory serves me right it shall be assembled with common nails and brass hardware

Ok, I keep my powder, in their original approved containers, in a wooden CZ surplus ammo box.
Does anybody know the rationale behind this regulation? What is the difference between storing the powder in the specified wooden box vs. storing in a closet or cupboard, in your reloading area assuming the powder doesn't share its space with primers?
