Just curious to see who here would like to see AR's being taken off the restricted list for hunting purposes?

Ill state my personal views and please submit yours or if infact this is a repost. I am always affraid to start a thread when I can't find something in the search engine!

I would like to see the restricted list being taken of the restricted list period....

As far as AR15, why for hunting purposes ?? same applies for target shooting... same gun, same non-criminal activity...

Yes, take them off. It serves no purpose to not allow them to be used off the range. Semi auto's are some shooter's choice for hunting. A restriction of where you can use them is pretty much a restriction only on the honest people. The crimes they fear might be committed with an AR are in no way prevented by saying you can only take them to the range.

Pretty much in the government eye's AR's are all military style semi-automatics. AR10, Carbines etc.

Sorry if I misread your comment.

how about the CFOs issue ATTs for hunting.... it would be the same ;)

or we get rid of ATTs and you could then take your restricted where ever you liked and shoot it where ever you shoot your non-restricted :D

Voted "YES" for all forms of hunting.
AR's can be had in 223, & 308. Even 7.62x39 from what i hear.
If i would have it my way, we would able to use anything & every thing, that includes handguns. LOL. Am i dreaming the dream, or just wishfull thinking. Mostly wishfull thinking, with the dam Liberal's. If they could have it their way, they would ban every thing, including pellet guns & knives.

No. Ergonomically designed, lightweight, stylish, well performing rifles are only for shooting up schools.... As soon as a .223/.308 is shot from a black rifle it instantly becomes an armor piercing, military death squad round, which not only causes cancer, but beats women and kills kittens. Hope I've cleared this up.

/sarcasm

Absolutely! But that won't happen because they are evil and scary! Now a nice traditional hunting rifle like an M-14 or CZ858 they can tolerate... Everyone knows those cant hurt people...

There should be no classes of firearms, period.

If you can own a firearm, it shouldn't matter if it's black, scary, short, full auto etc. A gun is a gun.

Now, there should be a minimum caliber for hunting big game (which there is in most provinces) but what firearm shoots that bullet shouldn't matter.

So you want joe schmo out in the bush with an AR in 223 hunting moose? I don't see it...
I believe the caliber restrictions should still apply.

look at the new AR family, lots of different calibers available.

and yes there are minimum calibers for big game hunting that would still apply.

I would get a remmington SR-25 in 7-08 (would go nce with my SR-15 in 223) and use the 7-08 for deer :D and the 223 for yotes and other vermin :D

I voted yes, take them off the list. Take everything off the list, restricted, non-restricted, a gun is a gun.

As far as caliber restrictions for hunting, well that's provincial jurisdiction, so it really doesn't have anything to do with taking the AR off the restricted list.

@ woodchopper

Hey props on the John Stuart Mill reference in your sig... didn't notice that!

What a great writer\libertarian!

No - but I'd love to BE Joe Schmo out in the bush with an AR-10 hunting moose...

When I acquired my first AR, it was just another rifle as far as the law was concerned. Then they were reclassified as the equivalent of restricted; then that classification was reversed when Joe Clark was Prime Minister. Then they were reclassified again, and remain restricted.
It was nice when they were not subject to the ATT foolisness.

Full auto weapons shouldn't be used for hunting applications. Lawfully owned and used at the owners discretion for fun? Sure. Used for hunting? No.

EDIT: I know I'll catch some flak for this, but here goes. All 1 bullet per trigger squeeze guns should be non restricted - ALL OF THEM - all FA should be restricted. Get rid of prohib all together - it's a waste of time (and money). I would seriously question the decision to allow FA rifles/guns to be used by people who didn't have training "above and beyond" that of the PAL course. That thought weirds me out a bit.... Just my $0.02 CAD....
