How many sks do you own??

perhaps this boards could change that

Welcome,Sir. Glad to see you made the trek north. You need outside photo hosting like photobucket to post pictures here. I had to be taught by Val.
But it's not all that hard.

we have direct post from our hard drive on Gunboards.com and for you ak and sks collectors i think you should join the gunboards and read all the good info there (gunboards has allot of various sections on all weapons there and is in my humble opinion the best boards we have in the States for collectors. I wish i could post some pics for you but maybe someday when your boards can also post from your hard drive

My collection of sks carbines

I collect by country, factory code, year dates, differences in model, The Chinese I collect by variation and factory code their are over 150 factory codes that are known to be floating around:) The Chinese use them to throw off actual production capability it looks like they have allot of factories. they do the same for ammunition I think i have 36 different factory codes in ammunition so far. What I am missing for sks in my collection is 49 tula 55 tula other than that i have most everything else. Yugo ones are interesting I have the M59 M59 long barrel experimental M59/66 without night sights ported launcher. M59/66 ported launcher with night sights, M59/66 non ported launcher, set of consecutive right from crate unissued, Mitchells special run with all the latest known changes, sniper model, field conversion model with select fire disc on side of stock and conversion to 30rd ak magazine made especially for the sks (locks on standard magazine catch I also have one original magazine. These guns came in and were converted back to semi for sale they removed the magazines and changed the trigger groups. anyone who can post pics here email me and I will send you some pics to be posted here.

So far I've got two Chinese Type 56s. One that I picked up from Lebaron as a kid years ago (commercial/Chinese military?....it shoots very well) and another from SIR a couple of years ago that I haven't fired yet (probably a commercial mixmaster). I got an unfired Yugo M59 from Marstar and got a 1953 and 1954 Tula black bolt refurbs from SIR/Cabelas when they first came in. I added a 1954, silver bolt IZH laminate from Lebaron on Saturday, going back tomorrow to pick it up. My CZ858 tops off the 7.62x39 collection.

Are there stickies or other references for figuring out the Chinese SKS? I'd like to see if my oldest one is military or commercial production (it shoots surprisingly well) and confirm the status of my second, which is probably a commercial mixmaster. I might sell the latter to make room for an original Chinese military issue, since I don't need another shooter/loaner/backup and it will only sit around waiting for a zombie invasion.

Notwithstanding the consensus that SKS are not too accurate, I've gotten decent performance from my older Chinese and the one Tula that I've shot, probably no worst than I'd get from a 30/30 carbine. I'm not saying that they shoot minute of angle (maybe 2-3moa at best), but I think that their reputation combined with the low price of ammo means that many people don't shoot them too carefully and just presume that they can't do better.

While I might sell off one or two of these, I'd be open to adding a Yugo 59/66, East German or Romanian if they become available.

I used to own two, a commercial Norinco which I paid $113 total from Lever arms in Vancouver about 15yrs ago and a very nice reparkarised Russian one I bought at the now closed Castle arms in North Vancouver 15yrs ago. I concur with Beadwindow about the accuracy of the SKS. The two of them were just frustrating as far as accuracy goes. I sold the Russian one to a Russian friend of mine and kept the Norinco.

I just bought my first (of hopefully many) SKS rifle this week. I have already gone through half a crate of ammo with it and I am just loving this gun! :D

I just ordered a Chinese SKS and a case of ammo this afternoon so I guess I'll soon own #1. If it shoots okay and feels good I could definately see myself getting a little more serious and looking for certain Russian models. I would have gotten a Russian first but I figured with the deal on shipping with a case of ammo I'd get in on the ground floor and see what happens.

got two tulas a 51 and a 54
one in a tapco suit with a twenty round mag, a red dot and bipod
the other original with all matching numbers
LOVE EM!!
