My First and ONLY Rifle -- Pictures Page 1/20/25 -- Range Review Page 28 --

The Internets: creating confusion, one post at a time.

BTW, cool story: the guy I spoke to @ Wolverine actually designed the P4L fine reticule - small world!

Well it would help if I used more words =)
That is pretty cool.. I have some crazy stories like that ;D

Going to shoot the hell out of a 50 yard target again this weekend Koshy?

Likely not, it is ORA Winter Training this weekend. But maybe next weekend I can hit up Silverdale and shoot all day at the 100 and 200 yards :)

Thanks,
- Koshy

Yesterday was awesome so my thanks to those hosting it (you know who you are) :)

Took me a few minutes and a bit of help to figure out the zero feature, but once I had that down, was easy breezy :D

Shooting from the bag also worked much better, I was still on target after each shot, was such a nice change of pace from having to pick up my rifle and move it and then get back into position, bla, bla, bla. But I do want to work on my follow through a bit more, having to move the rifle after each shot has for sure thrown me off my normal operation. But having the bag will allow me to get back to the proper follow through :)

The optic has proven to be very easy and quick to make adjustments to, clarity and eye relief is also more then I could have hoped for :) All I can say, is YEY to no more bushnell.

Also did a mount check to see if the ring's screws were backing off, and nope! Just as solid as the day I put the scope in and tightened it down :)

So all in all, I am very happy and excited to do some normal shooting, then get out to silverdale in a week or two and really start to test her :)

Thanks,
- Koshy

Do you like it?

I'll hunt around and see if I cannot find anyone who currently has one in stock.

Would also love to see some #### of it ;)

Sorry for mixing you up with rifleman :p

Thanks,
- Koshy
Not ####, just a couple crappy pics with the Zeiss diavari 5-15x42 mounted on it. I don't shoot much at the range, mostly hunt with my rifles.

Versapod showed up at my door... conclusions? Little better but I will leave final judgment for when I shoot with it again.

Atlas v7 will probably show up next week, I will be sure to do a comparison of both.

I also have some new pictures of the completed rifle, outside in the sun & fresh snow... so you can get a good idea of what the final product looks like, rather then washed out pictures because of the camera flash, or off colour scopes (no I didn't repaint it) :)... I must say, with the scope on it, the bipod deployed, in the daylight, and standing back... in my humble opinion it just looks "right" to me. Really makes me feel like all the trouble was well worth it now.

I will hopefully have a "real" range report soon. Sorry if you hate me because I haven't yet, but I swear I am not blowing smoke up your asses :p

Some of you may or may not have noticed this, but in the pictures the bipod is on backwards.... my bad :p

FYI those scope caps can go any direction, I know the way I have them for the photos aren't "tactical" but I wasn't exactly concerned about it at the time

Thanks,

Too much gun #### for me - that looks really nice, you were right about the camera flash. Nice reticule, too.

Here's a newbie tip: make sure those scope rings are on nice and tight, lest the scope slip during each shot, which'll ruin the finish (which is the mistake I made when I first went out). Torque the screws holding the upper & lower ring halves to 15 in.-lbs. and you should be OK to go.

Hey, thanks. Told you I wasn't lying about Camera flash :D
Yea I was surprised how easy it was to take a picture of the reticule... really easy.

Thanks for the newbie tip! Fortunately Richard (From NEAR) told me about proper torque 15-22 inch lbs... I chose 20 inch lbs :p
Also to make sure I didn't lose my zero the side "nuts" I torqued down to 65 inch lbs.
I'm sorry to hear your finish got a little hurt, never nice when you drop so much $$.

Thanks,
- Koshy

6.5x55??? dont you have enough of that already?
I thought you were going to re-barrel that in .270?

Koshy,
Very nice, I like it.
I like that purple hue on the Pr scope too.
Too bad its only show up under camera flashes.

Nice Gun Koshy, now if you let me borrow the stock of the gun, maybe I could replicated with an Aluminum block...

Nice gun...I bet my stevens 200 with a tasco scope would out shoot it (out of the box no accurizing of course). Have fun can't wait for the range report
I would find that hard to believe if both guns are as received from factory (stock) with the same skilled shooter behind them. It doesn't matter how accurate a rifle is if the person using it can't do his part, you would have to use the same shooter for a fair comparison of accuracy.

^ Lol... I guess the Internet doesn't convey humour all that well

65 sounds about right.

Questions:
- When does the near mount come in?
- Is that a flat (0 MOA) base? check the scope instructions - if it's anything like most tactical scopes in that price range, your zero is at the top of the elevation range, therefore your base should be canted at half the angle of your elevation range.
- What kind of bedding does the action/stock use?

As I've mentioned a bunch of times, I find the finish to be the weak point of those scopes; case in point, when I took mine off, I noticed that the finish was "faded" (the aluminum was coming through) where the scope rings were against the tube. I get it back in a couple of hours by the way, C.P. says it's "out for delivery"!

Guess we have a date? :p

Buy a McRee for like $700, that will be close enough to my stock :)

I don't find the intertubes convey humor at all :p

-Well I have NEAR Rings on there right now (which are working well), as for the Alphamount hopefully by the end of next month, the guys who do the blackening are super busy, and when you are looking for a custom order (most just order 0 MOA AlphaMount), it becomes a little more time consuming :p If Steyr didn't locktite the screws on the rail for the receiver (which requires a torch to get them out), I probably would have just got a Canted base, and flat Alphamount.
-Yes, flat top picitinny rail to 1913 mil std.
-I don't think it would be half for my scope? I mean it has 28 mils of elevation which is like 97 MOA of elevation... that would mean somewhere around 40-50 MOA for a 3-15x50 scope?? Just doesn't seem right to me. From what I was told by PR, for a .308 28 mils is more then enough for a 100 yard zero without any Canting... but I still want to get Canting so I will likely go with 20-30 MOA.
-Honestly, I have no idea what bedding the action has, if it even has bedding... for example (correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think a Sako TRG22 is bedded...

Awesome, bet you are excited to shoot again!

Thanks,
- Koshy

There's no "seem right" here - if you have 28 mils (more than twice mine!), then if you zero it with a flat top, you'll lose the upper half of your elevation range. Considering you'll have 13 mils left, for a .308, I don't think it makes a difference - for some of the farther reaching cals it might. Still, I like to have my zero at the very top of my elevation range vs. somewhere in the middle. Does your PR have a zero-stop?

Yeah, just came in an hour ago - looks very fine, only covers 3mm@100m, and it's got hashmarks down to 1cm@100m at the edges of the crosshair. It's gonna be a good saturday morning... :D

PR has a zero stop yes, but it still allows you to go down .6 mils. But you most certainly know where the zero is, when you hit the 0 and then it stops .6 after.

Glad to hear the new reticule is what the doctor ordered :)

Thanks,
- Koshy

GunBoy, you sure live up to your monicker - you got some cool projects & equipment. What else you got coming up?

A new resusage recycle action, barrel, and stock just got done tonight, is 300wm, not very fancy, but I am proud for the fact, that I gather all the part together, clean up bolt face, square action, lap bolt lug, re channel stock, thread, ream with match chamber reamer, put muzzle break on, and even give it a NAME:I think I spell Testicle wrong!, Not sure, Mastercam doesn't have spelling check!.
