So you wanna pimp your SKS?
I have created this guide to assist all those people out there interested in pimping out their SKS rifle. A list of suppliers is listed at the end of the article. I will not post prices here.
If anybody feels that this list is incorrect or needs addition feel free to PM me and I'll think about changing it.
For a list of Optics and mounts please go here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=439418
Stocks
TAPCO T6 Stock (6 Position Adjustable)
These stocks are available in a number of solid colors and camo patterns.
They are available with no bayonet cut, spike bayonet cut and blade bayonet cut.
Options for this stock include an upper hand guard rail and a lower rail (available on no bayonet cut models only)
The upper hand guard rail is not considered the best for holding zero with optics. They seem to move with recoil and are affected by the heat the rifle generates by shooting.
MONTE CARLO Stock
These stocks are not adjustable and do not offer any optic mounts. A number of different brand names offer this stock. Remember, you get what you pay for.
DRAGUNOV Stock
These stocks are not adjustable and do not offer any optic mounts. A number of different brand names offer this stock. Remember, you get what you pay for.
FOLDING Stock
These stocks are not adjustable. Some models offer an optic mount on the upper hand guard. The upper hand guard rail is not considered the best for holding zero with optics. They seem to move with recoil and are affected by the heat the rifle generates by shooting. A number of different brand names offer this stock. Remember, you get what you pay for.
FIBERGLASS Stock
These stocks are not adjustable and do not offer any optic mounts.
Magazines
5 Round Fixed Magazine
These replace your factory 10/5 magazine. These will work with any SKS that has a fixed magazine from the factory.
20/5 Round Fixed Magazine
These replace your factory 10/5 magazine. These will work with any SKS that has a fixed magazine from the factory.
Detachable Duckbill Style Magazine
These magazines vary in size from 5 rounds up to 50/5 rounds and any material from plastic to aluminum. These replace your factory 10/5 magazine. These will work with any SKS that has a fixed magazine from the factory. You CAN NOT order these from the united states as they will not be pinned before hand and as such will be prohibited as soon as they cross the border. These magazines are designed to still use stripper clips but a number of different models have difficulty feeding them. Tapco brand magazines made of a polymer material with a steel base seem to be the highest quality option but there are a number of different magazine manufacturers out there.
Detachable Magazine (Non duckbill, AK style magazines)
These magazines will fit SKS D, SKS M and any other SKS models that have a detachable magazine from the factory. These will not fit SKS models with a fixed magazine.
Other Stuff
Recoil Buffer Pad
These reduce the steel on steel contact that is made every time you fire your SKS. Some people have noticed a big difference, some people have noticed nothing. They are VERY cheap.
Shell Deflector
A must have for anybody running a scope anywhere near the ejection port. It also helps control your spent brass at the range. It fits under your rear iron sight and does not require a gunsmith to install.
Muzzle Brake
All muzzle brakes make the use of the bayonet impossible. There are a number of different makes and models available. There are also a number of different attachment methods. SKS rifles that have a grenade launcher on the end of the barrel will require a different style of muzzle brake than SKS riles without the grenade launcher.
Where can you buy all this stuff?
Below is a list of the suppliers and what they carry. If I missed a dealer or a if a dealer is no longer selling SKS parts please PM me and I’ll update the list.
