The elusive 1949 Russian SKS

It is not as easy as just asking them not to frankpinned. They have rules and regulation. It is like asking Canadian Government can you guys just change your rules for 10 instead of 5. I have to apply to have it change.

PS IZHimpex shipment was a fluke plus it was from Ukraine not Russia. It was almost destroyed when it came here. They talked customs to allow them to pin it here at Eppswoods. If they come unpinned again it will be destroyed.

Could they not be pinned like the IZH rifles with the welded bar on the follower?

1949 pics!

I finally got my sks 1949 today. Its a refurb, seem's painted but all the criticals parts match, cover, bolt, bolt carrier, receiver, trigger guard and the barrel is non-chrome so look like its original barrel. Its a refurb but i'm really happy, mains parts match so its a real 1949, cannot complain! Sorry for the quality of the pics but have a look...

P.S militaria have well packaged the rifle

You can see the difference between a late model bolt and bolt carrier(left) and the 1949 (right) My 1949 have the spring loaded firing pin. And you must be careful when removing the bolt from the carrier because the extractor can be removed very easily if you are not careful

So i think that a refurb 49 is better than no 49 at all:)
I will clean it well and this weekend i will shoot a few rounds with to test the mecanic, and maybe make a small video:D

Wow very nice :D

Its just missing the 1949 stock and bayo but other then that its original

Very nice find!

So a '49 Russian SKS, even if referb, your saying would be a better shooter/quality than a non referb Russian sks of other years?

Not exactly, the quality is the same, but what make a 1949 so desirable its because was the first year of production and there small differences not found on later models. Of course, finding a 1949 non refurb and all matching would be amazing:D

First of all thank you for the pictures always nice to see some pictures. I read up on 1949 but if you have some pointers for me let me know in PM.

Value of a SKS in the usa

I post the pics of my refurb 1949 on gunboards.com. A guy said the a refurb like that would sell for 800-1000$.....they want them so bad down there?

Russian imports are banned in the USA and only afew Russian SKSs made it in the country. Unlike the bounty we have in Canada :D
