Coyote Attack Pickering

there are no wolves in Pickering nor any where close for that matter.

I have had many people tell me that there are wolves in our area (north of Oshawa). I'm pretty sure that they have either seen coyotes (which are much larger here than out west, up to 70-75 lbs), dogs, or coyote dog crosses.

I am not aware of a single credible report of resident wolves anywhere this far south in Ontario.

Port Perry has had an epidemic of disappearing cats in the last couple of years - all presumably due to coyotes. These reports include locations pretty well in town. The coyotes are definitely getting bolder and more aggressive.

Wonder how that 24 year old Pomeranian owner feels about coyotes, coyote hunting, bounties and such things now (if she even had an opinion before). Perhaps her next dog will be a tad larger...

Big dogs are better than little dogs but not invulnerable. A single coyote will sometimes engage a large dog in a chase, tire it out and lead it to a pack where it is ambushed. Last summer I saw a very large bull terrier chasing a coyote through our bush lot. The terrier's harness and what was left of him were found a few days later.

Coyotes are famous for that... My old dog use to do the same thing: Chase a yote, mix it up with em & then try to get it to chase him back to me. Watch one day in an open field; my Catahoula give chase. Kinda had a meet and greet about 200-300 yds in front of me, then they half-heartedly went at it and then both ran in the their own direction stopping, occasionally looking back, hoping the other would give chase. Actually one of the funnier things I've seen.
I'd heard of more than one dog in Edmonton meet it's fate that way...

Hybrid then. Coyotes do not attain weights approching 70 lbs, not this far south anyway. I see Coyotes very frequently, this guy was MUCH bigger than any I have ever seen. This wasn't just a glimps of a big dog in the distance, I almost flattened this fker. As he ran away he kept his eye on me, constantly looking back over his shoulder. He stopped, turned and watched me for a few minutes, but not until he was about 100 yards away. He was very close in size to my 90lb Malamute, just leaner.

Regardless, I know it wasn't just a Coyote.

same things happening in london, sifton bog was overun with deer, they wanted to let us bowhunt it to keep the population in check, now the deer is way down and coyotes are everywhere, someones dog got snatched there this week also

Dont ge me wrong I am not affraid of much. I have a 80lb Pitbull/Mastiff which would rip one of those apart if it felt threatened enough.

Ya I have heard lots of reports of Wolves too, My girlfriends sisters farm in Omemee has 2-3 run across their property all the time. A black one too which would be a nice bit of pelt to own.

As for the girl having the dog on the leash I am not sure. Either way if it wasn't it would be her own damn fault.

Does Bruce County still have that bounty on? I just got my licence and wouldn't mind taking a trip!

Yes bruce county still has bounty for yotes, and the recently doubled it from $50 to $100
