Yup.39 years this coming August to the same woman.:bigHug:

It's not so bad - I can still rust blue on the kitchen stove.:)

That's all you do?? Stick it in solution and boil it on your stove top?:p

I might even be persuaded to divulge a very secret and unknown supplier of the mystery chemical... Maybe... :ninja:

Now you have my attention. So far I've had good results from Laurel Mtn's Barrel Brown & Degreaser and another product that is home brewed by a guy in Richmond, BC. But the Brownells Classic is another I'd like to experiment with.

Have you tried it and, if so, how'd it work out. And how can I get my hands on a couple of ounces? ;)

Maybe, if we don't tell anybody, some one will give us their secret, of how to plug the barrel so the bore doesn't get the treatment?

There are a couple of ways of dealing with the bore prior to rust bluing. One is to somehow plug the barrel so as to prevent water from getting in during the boil. I'm not sure what will happen when the air inside the bore expands from the heat. It could get exciting if a plug blows.

A second way is to coat the bore with lacquer and let dry. After the bluing job is done the bore is cleaned out with acetone then oiled. I've used this method and it works but it's also a PITA.

In truth, there's no need to coat or plug the bore. It won't rust because no rust solution is applied to the bore. When the barreled action is removed from the boil, the metal is so freaking hot that the water evaporates in about a nano-second.

After each boil, I run a clean patch on a de-greased cleaning rod down the barrel to remove any crud that may collect during the boil.

After the job is done the bore is given a good cleaning and oiled.

The reason I ask is that I have a business account with Brownells and can get this stuff at a pretty good discount.

Midway USA is selling 300gr ammunition for the KING for $38 a box, if someone was to go through the proper channels to get the ammo to Canada. That is a real steal of a deal!

My... god... I know these have come up before, but on the subject and seeing as nice .375's have been pictured, is there a more beautiful Safari Rifle out there than the Empire Express Grade? Jeebus, enough to make a guy swear off double rifles. Almost women even... Disgustingly, it's nearly affordable too.

A piece of wood to die for. There've been very few instances where I've seen better.

Well.......... I finally did it. I sat down for the last 2 hours and read through every page of this thread.... and considering it is for a caliber I have had zero intention on buying (hmmmm, maybe I should look at gettting one lol). Either this was a fantastic read, or I am an idiot (probably truth to both if I am being honest) ;) .

Anyway, very interesting stuff. From everything I've read here and elsewhere, they are selling these 375 Rugers like hotcakes. Be interesting to see how the 375 Ruger rifle sales for the past 2 years stack up against the more traditional popular choices like 30-06, 308, and the newer 'magnums' rolled out over the past few years. The 375 Ruger sales have been strong, you can't deny it, and all these new owners must be able to get ammo or the outcry would be much, much louder IMO.

Anyways, its been fun reading this. Thanx for the information and the entertainment.

Gatehouse, I have a question on a different subject. PM sent

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH.........

It's still alive.........

I forgot to remove the thread notification........

Ok all is well got it removed now........ :p
