cooey single shot mod 84 breaks open on firing

Ive got a Cooey model 84 (single shot 12 gauge) in excellent condition, the problem is most of the time it breaks open on firing resulting in the shell flying out and hitting me in the forehead! Anyone experience the same problem?
I took the stock off to take a look and all the springs etc seem to be in good working order. I must say though when i was first given it, it didnt have this problem, it was only after i oiled it (too much oil?)

the oil likely picked up some dirt and the latch is sticking and isn't engaging all the way.
take the forend and barrel off and push the latch in too see if it pops back out or comes out slowly.
Good chance if you pop the pins out and give it a thorough cleaning that all will be well.

I'm closing it firmly and even sometimes closing it with the latch open then snapping the latch back into place.

Why complain, you now have a semi auto single shot, get a shell caddy for the stock and you can make double hits with it!.

Sounds like some dirt for sure.
