Ok, so I know I'm going to ruffle a lot of feathers but I feel as though I have to rant about this.

All the firearms I have are passed down to me from my grandfather. They all have nice walnut stocks on them and feel like a gun should.

I was in the local gun shop yesterday and decided to kill some time looking at new guns. I asked to see a tikka hunter but the guy only had a t3 lite in stock. He handed it to me and I thought he had handed me a kids BB gun. What the $%*@ is wrong with you people that like those POS "synthetic" stocks?

Synthetic is just a glorified term that they have marketed that means light plastic. In my opinion cheap synthetic stocks have no place on a store shelf until toys R us gets a license to sell firearms. I also was dually unimpressed with the tikka action that I had heard people raving about but that is a whole other matter.

Anyone else feel the same way? or have you all been brainwashed into believing that a synthetic stock is far superior for it's weight and "weather resistance"?

Myself I prefer walnut, but where do you get off criticizing people for their preferences? Why do you care what other people spend their hard earned money on? To each his own, man.
 
after serving in the military for a while in my youth and seeing first-hand what moisture does to wood and even laminate stocks, I developed an affinity for synthetics. But then again, I own no safe queens.
 
As much as I appreciate a finely polished walnut stock, there are some major advantages to synthetic stocks. Firstly, they do not need maintenance, and do not shrink, expand or crack. Secondly, ounce for ounce, they can be stronger than wood stocks. Polymers have come a long way in the past 50 years, they are becoming more durable and lighter, literally the perfect material for a stock. Thirdly, you do not have to harvest or dry polymer stocks. They can be manufactured from a mold in a few minutes. This can greatly decrease the price of a rifle.

Again, it's not that I don't like wood stocks (I do), it's just that I think they both have their place in the firearms world.
 
For a hunting rifle, I far prefer a good quality synthetic stock like a Bansner or Macmillan to virtually any wood stock.

I really don't care if somebody else likes them or not...
 
I love wood stocks too, but I'm not blind to the benefits of synthetic. Also, keep in mind that not all synthetic stocks are created equally. Some are much stronger than others. The injection molded ones generally suck.
 
I remember coming home after a goose hunt and opening up my shotgun case only to see the wrist on the stock split open. I still don't know how that happened but a synthetic stock set was purchased shortly thereafter.

Wood is nice to look at, but synthetic is functional, and it's more important to me to have a successful hunt than to look good.
 
Hunting. "Cheap" plastic stocks are ideal for long trek through the woods, mountains or plains during a hunt. Their light weight make it possible to carry that gun all day long without wearing you out. Wood is much heavier thus you get tired faster. Also, when you drop the rifle, or you get a scratch on the stock, a scratch on a plastic is not as painful as on a nice wood. So there is an element of practicality when choosing stock. I have some nice rifles with nice wood but I select lighter synthetic stocks for the thick bushes when you are sure you will put more scratches on your hunting rifle.
 
I've always been a fan of synthetic. I bought an old shotgun with a wooden stock and immediately painted it black. Couldnt stand the look of it. Granted it was old and beat up. Synthetic all the way for me. But its just my opinion. Don't have to come out and b***h at us if you think differently.
 
I had a T3 Stainless, F In great rifle. Super accurate and light. That stock could take a beating more than any wood stock I have had. Time to get out of your cave Mr. Oldschool
 
Its fine that you don't like synthetic stocks....but its not exactly a reason to strip them off store shelves.

Many shooters want synthetic stocks, who are you to say they shouldn't have it.
 
I absolutely love wood stocks, they feel great and are beautiful. But my hunting rifle is synthetic. Why? I do a ton of walking when I hunt, and I'll take every bit of weight reduction I can. I carry my rifle all day. I might shoot it once, I'll take light over pretty for that. Doesn't look or feel as nice, but it sure beats lugging a heavy rifle all day.
 
For shooting in colder weather wood all the way, or on a nice shotgun, but for target, or general hunting synthetic all the way. can do so much more with it than you can with wood (im counting laminent in with synthetic since its so hard it cant be thought of as wood) my target guns are all laminent, my hunting guns are synthetic, my cold weather shooters are wood as are my shotguns. i also have an older .22 in wood that i like.

i also note the loudmouth that started this post with "56" posts to his name hasn't commented since.
