Hello Red Rifle Lovers! I just purchased said rifle for $649. @ Lanz Shooting Supplies/Silverdale(Fantastic Club, Gun store & people by the way) & was wondering what to lubricate it with.Also, where to lubricate it,don't want to get anything in bolt group to gum it up & cause a slamfire!!:eek: Any ideas out there? Thanks, SgtRockRules04
 
Lube all moving parts "not the piston"

As for slame fires "its caused from lack of cleaning not lube" Be sure to clean your firing pin and bolt face after every shoot to avoid slam fires.
 
I use wheel bearing grease. The $5 a tub stuff from Canadian Tire works just fine.

Keep the gas system and firing pin channel clean, dry and free of lube. You need to be able to hear your firing pin rattle back and forth if you shake the bolt. Grease all the other metal-to-metal contact points like the bolt carrier rails, bolt, and locking lugs.
 
this could open up a whole different discussion but i was doing the old boredom clean and oiling process last night and out of curiosity i checked the manual, it says to oil the piston which i have never done but an interesting point nonetheless

Does it say which part of the piston or just the whole thing? I usually grease the end the slides in the rear sight base but leave the head dry.
 
Are Slam fires a serious concern with CZ858's? I've not heard about them in this particular rifle, lots in the sks' with no firing pin spring, but never heard the CZ :confused:

I just use the Hoppe's gun oil that came in my cleaning kit. It costs a lot more than the cambodian tire grease tub, so it must be better ;)
 
If you want to know, oil up the piston, shoot 100 rounds and clean it... You won't do it again. Even worse with an SKS since it has a gas tube.
 
858 Lube.

I was curious at first when i got my CZ in fall 2009 and after reading the manual wich says clean the whole rifle with WD40. Thats fine but wasn't the route i went.

Note: Too much oil on the bottom of the bolt carrier, espeicially the bottom of the bolt will cause a jam, keep the bottom of the bolt nice and clean and DRY. This is the part that picks up the new round.


My process is as follows.

After shooting, strip the rilfe down, pour some hot water down the barrell....Shake out the barrell, then run a CLP soaked patch through and let it sit. Wipe all parts down including the bolt carrier and its part with CLP, let it sit.

Go to town with the Qtips and clean the bolt face, hard to get areas and wipe all parts down good, pulling the barrell through a few more times, re-assemble and lock her up.

What i have found to provide the smoothest action ? ie, When you #### it how smooth it feels.. Forget oil..... take some crappy tire white lithium bearing grease on a q-tip and apply a small amount on the reciver tracks right and left, where the bolt carrier rides, put little dab every inch or so and #### it a few times, you will see what i mean and stays on there too.

Just check that you didn't apply too much and none of the grease has made it onto the bolt face.

And always keep the bore and chamber DRY before you shoot, un-like some know it all jerk stain with his CZ at the range that told me i should keep the chamber/bore well lubed ......
