Alberta Hunting regs Page 32

"Yeah your arsenal is sorta soft, and not doing any hunting before you need to do some sort of firearms safety training, ---"

David K, Why don't you tell them something about fiearms training!!!

(And thanks for bringing me the scope.)

Errrrr, I think you have me mixed up with the David K. from BC. I really gotta change my username.

David, instead of relying on a forum why don't you just call "Fish and Frogs" (aka Sustainable Resource Development Alberta) directly to get your questions answered? Then you know you're in the clear 100%.

The only people I know who have shot predatory black bears were because they were creating a problem, usually with bee hives or getting to close the house, or during calving not actually hunting them...

That is the spirit in which the regulation is refering to
(in bold, from page 32)

"Access for Control of Livestock Predation
Black Bear and Coyote*
Any person who is (a) the owner or occupant of privately owned land, or (b) authorized to keep livestock on public land, or (c) a resident authorized by a person described in (a) or a resident authorized in writing by a person described in (b) may, without a licence, hunt (but not trap) black bear or coyote on such lands, at all times of the year."

This reg was not meant to encourage a free for all for landowners to kill bears for the heck of it.
We have had to shoot 2 black bears over the years on the farm, both because they became aggressive after they were asked nicely to leave ;)
Several others have passed through, with no harm done to either party.
Many more, Im sure, have been in the yard without our knowledge.

Really, if you want to hunt bears, why not just buy the licence and then you can hunt anywhere, use bait, etc.

That's how I figured it.

You're right!
I never thought of two the same, except for some small difference. Also, couldn't figure this out as coming from the other David K, so finally had to say something.

Well I want to thin out the number of bears out there. They wreck stuff(especially plastic) and they don't seem to be scared of people at all. We had one circle our cabin all night one time even after yelling at it and shining a couple of those really big flashlights at it(we didn't have any guns out there) and it tried to get in my dad's friend's van which he was sleeping in. I don't just want to go hunt some bears.

Boy, it is a good thing I didn't use my full first name and last initial or you would be really confused, eh Bruce ;) :D

X2...ya, the regs are pretty clear from what I can see but the only place you will get confirmation that can be taken to court is above.
