wow! great to know, i just pre ordered mine yesterday.....I did read in another thread, that if you dont own an M14/305....your ##### will fall offSo i just ordered a couple of them....just to be safe
Likely selling their 07s to afford the new ones coming.Well it's not really I can't afford it I just don't want to buy both, only one. I like the look of the M14 but it is a Norinco. as for the SKS it would be a Simonov 1945-1951 production lines. might use it for a backup yote & wild pig gun. as for a customizing if it's an SKS I would most likely set it up with a scout rail for optics.
I see a ton of M14's on EE why is that?
You may laugh now, but you won't if you get an SKS and your #### falls off.![]()
Guys help!!!My #### fell off because I didn't buy any yet.. I need help to find it... Oh! it's ok now....

I couldn't resist I had to say itThere is some very good input here thanks all. reloading is not an issue after my basement is finished I will set up the press right now it's in storage, I'm just trying to keep my gun numbers down I have a good selection of varmint guns. My largest gun right now is .223 both in a Short 11.5" AR15 & A Savage 10FCP-K in .223cal the Ar is great for QCB but I can't use it for hunting, My 10FCP-K is to long & heavy for hunting yote & wild pigs, So I'm looking for a back up gun. I have a 17hmr which would be ok for yote to about 125yrd but not enough stopping power for wild pigs I no longer hunt deer so I'm not worried about that. Most of my hunting is around predators & gophers these days so a .308 could be a good choice I would need to hold a M14 in my hand to make sure I'm not in the same boat with my Savage 10FCP-K for weight.
I see a ton of M14's on EE why is that?Because it's a popular firearm owned by many. That means there's likely more people to be selling and buying.
I never was a type of guy to go blasting tons of rounds. my day at a range is more like shooting about 20 or so rounds in each gun I take to the range unless it's rimfire then I don't mind blasting a brick off.In that case, I'd recommend the Norinco. I assume blasting 20 rounds on the range means accuracy is important to you. I think the SKS will need a bit more tuning to perform better. By the way, it may be made in China but if you read the stickies, the recent batch have rated very well in terms of quality and workmanship.

guys off the top of your head how long is the Norinco M14 gun in inches & what is the overall weight? Are there any Norinco m14's I should stay from that may have had issues? Where are a good place to buy one. I understand that Marstar is getting some, I take pride in my guns so I want to locate a good run of M14's with a nice finish to it. I'm starting to think m14 is a better choice. How are to mounting system for the scope? is there something better then the cheap side mounts?
Normally I would say do your research but this forum is so full of info that it'll take days for you to digest. So I'll help you. It something like 45" at about 10lbs. Not really sure, but you can mod it to be shorter and lighter. The latest batch (2009) of Norinco M14's are getting excellent reviews and probably what you should aim for for least path of resistance. Most of the headspace debacle originate from the pre-2007 batch of M14s. If you can, get the latest one which Marstar is selling at an incredible deal. Speaking of Marstar, johnone has said that he plans to bring Italian made M14s. Rumour mill has the ETA during sometime later this year. They are supposedly of much better quality than the Norincos. If you are willing to wait. SKS wise, Marstar is bringing in a mix bag of 70000+ SKSs for the North American market. Apparently all military grade. This influx is supposedly going to mean much cheaper SKS's than they already are. Anyway, as far as scopes go, I'm no help. I'm young and prefer iron sightsBut I do know that, like the SKS, it's not readily scopable. At least not properly. Best is side mounts to receiver unless you have an aftermarket stock which provide you with interesting options. I highly suggest you look through the stickies at the top of the forum for help. Contacting the authors would be helpful, too as there are a variety of mounts. Cheers and good luck
Hungry here: Headspace debacle... I would say 1990's batch since I bought my first Norc M14 back in 2002, great quality over the 90's renditions (soft bolts, goofy metallurgy). Anything from the Y2K onwards are great keepers. Hey, my current teaching (M14 clinics) M14 is a 2007 stamped Norc. It's all good!![]()
