I am looking for contact info of the owner if it is still for sale somewhere.

The rifle was listed on gunaddicts.com for a buy it now of $900 from member unclebobby. After debating it for almost 3 weeks I hit the buy it now. Everything seemed fine. Just before I made the payment i stopped getting emails from "nick" the supposed owner of the rifle and started getting emails from "barb" his sister. Although the unique writing style of nick continued on with the emails from barb. It seemed like a slip up by this so called barb. After the first email signed "barb" I got another explaining it was his sister answering for him because he was out (this coming from her). I never heard from nick after this. She told me she was puting a hold on the sale, saying the rifle is worth way more and wanted me to make an offer. I said we had an agreement on $900 and asked for nick's contact info....never did get it. I asked bluntly and got a "NO". I ASKED if they'd take $1500 (as a feeler) and she said "definately no". I'm wondering if the owner of the rifle doesn't know this is going on. And/or "Barb" is trying to scam me. Or maybe this is all legit???

Anyway, if someone does know of this rifle for sale I would like to persue it if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

BTW, I already tried contacting Repairman, but haven't heard back from him, and he hasn't logged in for a while.

I'd walk away, and be glad that I still had all my money. I sold a wrapped N04 MkII a couple of years ago, so I know they're out there, and even $900 seems high to me, but $1500?? No freakin way is right, shouldn't cost more than $700 which is what they're worth.

The $1500 offer was just a feeler to see what they were looking for. I offered it after the whole deal went south being sure they wouldnt take it.

"...she was putting a hold on the sale..." It's entirely possible that Nick was trying to sell her rifle or that she was using a guy's name, but not likely. I'd ask who the rifle is registered to. You likely won't get a true answer though.
It boils down to what enefgee says. You didn't lose your money, walk.

Feeler? If they bite, it is technically legal & binding on you. Don't try this again.

At this point I knew they weren't selling it to me which is why I threw it out there. And I have never backed out of a deal or an offer. I just needed to know we weren't doing the transaction. Legally binding??? How about pulling out of a buy it now for $900?

EDIT: Sorry SF, I shouldn't be using the word "offered" here.....What I meant was I just asked if they'd take it.....I'll have to be more careful in the future. The rest of my reply still stands :p

It might depend on how you word something. "I will give you $x.xx for it." is definitely an offer to buy. "Would you sell that for $x.xx?" is arguably a question rather than an offer.

Exactly, my exact words were "would you take $1500?" not, "I'll give you $1500" (confirmed it in my sent messages before I quoted it). I don't know why the focus has turned to this though. I guess I shouldn't really have said I OFFERED $1500 when I meant I just wanted to see if they'd take $1500.....my mistake They wouldnt answer my question of what exactly they wanted to get out of it, which is why I asked. Quite shocked they turned it down......probably shouldn't say they turned it down either, that implies I offered it.....They said "no".
 
Cool. No apology needed. I am glad you didn't fall for the scam. Hate to see honest people getting ripped off by con artists in this world.
 
What is with all the hard-ass comments both in this thread and others, treating an offer as some golden-hanshake / written in stone contract? What am I missing? If I say "how about I give you $1 for your item" and they say "sure", I reserve the right to change my mind. A deal is not a deal until money changes hands or you have a signed contract with terms other than cancelling for convienence. What an I missing with these internet hard-asses who believe that if you even *think* about buying, you are obligated to sign over your firstborn??
