Can a Mini 14 be a precision rifle for 300 meters?

these guys apparently make them shoot sub moa

Ouch 2 grand. At that price I think an SL8 is a better buy.

My mini 14 target, with winchester white box 45 JHP shoots under a 1" group 3 shots easily. Most are 1/2"-5/8". This is at 112 yds, and several trips to the range. Maybe I got a good one?

This is interesting to know though.
I really just wanted a cheap sa rifle that could shoot sub moa. without being restricted too.
Although from looking an AR would be about the same or more to be sub moa.

Believe what you want, but mine as mentioned, 4.5-14x40 VX3 on it, 6 3 shot groups in a row, under 1", and 4 of them 1/2" to 5/8". I was playing with the balancer, and ended up flush with the end of the barrel. A friend has the one with the Hogue stock, and when I took mine and his to my gunsmith to have an Accuracy International trigger and adjustable gas block put on, his shot the same way with the same ammo. The gunsmith could not believe it. If need be I can find the target I used and post pictures.

First time out, Mini 14 Target 580 series, PMC 55gr ammo <1 MOA at 100 yards. Shot well enough that put a little money in it to get trigger worked on, adjustable gas block, softer spring, better buffer - now need time... However, am not intending it to become a precision rig at 300+ meters, have bolt guns for that.

Some of the new ones are capable of sub MOA pretty consistently. No, I'm not talking about the target version. Shot one the other day with 40gr Winchester ballistic tips. Averaged under an inch at 100 for about 8, 3 shot groups. If you guys have only shot the older ones, try one of the new ones before you badmouth them too much. Phil

Mini-14 and precision should never appear in the same sentence. The software here should automatically censor it .....just like when you try to write f**k!!!

So basically a Target version should be close to an equivalent price bolt gun?

I really want an SA rifle, and I want to pop gophers with it too. I will be mostly plinking, but would like it to be accurate too, I like precision.

I ONCE had a mni14. Near Calgary, a soldier buddy and myself went target shooting in the Kananaskis Country. He was coaching his fiance in shooting, and she had his sporterized 303 LE, and I had my mini14 with 55 grain factory ammo.
Long story short, his fiance with .303 promptly outshot me with the mini piece of cr*p!
I quickly got rid of it......I hope it's a lamp now, or at least something equally useful, like a manhole cover.
