Holster Belt?

Concealment, duty or competition? - actually, MD Charlton carries all of that stuff. Also, tell them you want a gun belt - it's no big deal and you'll get the right kind of belt, if you try to be politically correct you might end up with the wrong thing.

Sorry, should have specified that. Range use only, mostly practicing and possibly some casual IDPA shooting. Guns being carried (to date) are a 5" 1911, Norc NP-34 (228 clone) and a Redhawk 5.5".

For casual OWB use around the range I just use my regular pants belt. Any reason you want something fancier than that? Even for IDPA where you'll likely be using a pancake style holster a regular belt wide enough to just fit through typical pants belt loops should work just fine I would think.

Unless I'm mis-reading what you're after and what you want is one that has the built in loop that forms the holster?

I just placed an order from Tucker Gun Leather in Texas. A leather lined kydex holster, and a bull hide gun belt, + mag carriers. I haven't received it yet, so I can't attest to the quality, but my research into what others think of them suggests top quality. Quite pricey, but I'm expecting good things.

I really like the kydex-reinforced leather belts that Minotaur makes for Comp-Tac : comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=43

They're nice and stiff, yet very comfortable. This is due in part to the way they are made. If you take your favorite old leather belt and roll it flat on a tabletop, you will notice that it is no where near straight and has taken on a more contoured shape. Minotaur cuts their belts (and the kydex reinforcing strips) to this shape before they are sown up; making for a belt that is as stiff as you want a gunbelt to be yet comfortable for all day wear, if you choose to. And best of all (in my eyes) they look like a nice leather belt rather than a tacticool gunfighter's belt. But maybe that's just me... c:

Dedicated belt

A belt designed specifically for carrying a load, ie: handgun, should be used. The choices are practically endless on styles and materials. Check the guys you shoot with and find something that works for you. Buy the best you can afford, with proper care it should last a lifetime.

Cheers, Will

Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt with extra stitching (5 stich) is what I use for IPSC and IDPA

Terrific belt for all around use. The problem with regular pants belts is that they stretch and sag, and eventually break. They aren't designed to hold up a gun. Also leather gun belts tend to have removable buckles, which stops you from having to remove your belt to rig up at the range.

I wear a holster belt as my daily belt; it was made by Joe Laroche of Laroche Leather. Since I have found him, he had made me my belt, a multi tool pouch, a puch for my wedding and iron ring, an N frame holster with an adapter to wear it low in the winter, two double mag pouches, and a competition holster. He products are good quality and his prices are reasonable.

Take a look at "The Wilderness Belt" If you are using it for IDPA go with the 1 3/4" standard belt. It is all you ever will need.

P&D Enterprises in Edmonton stocks the Galco belts...I bought one a couple years ago, and I wear it every single day. Still looks like new. GREAT gun belt.

Any gun shop that carries holsters should also have gun belts. You can order from the U.S. with no fuss too. Lots of 'dress gun belts' available too. Cheap they ain't.
Tandy's will have gun belt blanks if you're feeling crafty. A gun belt is just a belt made out of 8 oz or better leather.

I have talked to him about stuff before and have looked at his site. I may well get one from him since he is close and I prefer to support a local merchant and the quality looks very good. I have no experience with what is needed for a quality holster belt, so I wanted comments and ideas from more experienced members about what to look for and what works.

Joe made my Redhawk holster and speedloader pouch and it is excellent. I wish I had been smart enough to order the belt at the same time...
