H&K P30 vs. SIG P229

How about P226? AFAIK, it was specifically designed for 9mm and P229 for 40. I have P226 and love it. I fired a bunch of other 9mm but not nearly enough to say what is better and what is not. However, grip on P220 feels best for me. P226 comes 2nd...

P226 just looks good and shoots good to me. If US Navy seals like it, it's good enuf for me. :) Bought new and started using it last October. Almost 5k of reloads and zero problems. Only time it had stove pipes or whatever was in the beginning when I was figuring out load recipe.

I have shot a P30C with the extended threaded barrel and it was AWESOME. I am going with a P226 instead because of the proven history of the SIGs.

Pretty sure you can't go wrong with either.

Compact models are kind of pointless in Canada.

Not necessarily, especially if you do CDP/ODPL/*DPA/etc and you're carrying your pistol all day.

Granted, the appearance of a chunk of pipe sticking out of the slide isn't for everyone, but there are a number of compact pistols with threaded barrels out there. Look at Questar.

The grips are very different; the P30 has exchangeable front/backstrap.

As for reliability, they're both rock solid imo. The P30 is beeing tortured right now by pistol training http://pistol-training.com/archives/2596 ; they're going to shoot it until it dies I think :) 85k rounds through so far.

Both are very good choices imo, it all depends on personal preference. BTW HK mag price sux (it you're concerned about that :)) they're like 75$ each... And part availability is worst than SIG imo

I hope it wasn't the stainless steel version cause I have mine for sale on EE at substantial savings. :)

My dealers getting me one in black for 1235 new. I can't complain. Especially when everyone one else told me 14 weeks delivery, and he's expecting it to arrive tomorrow.

I have the 226 SS, I love it and would love the SSElite I have an elite229 I like the beavertail and I like the heft of the SS, just wish I could justify another Sig.

Sigs are nice guns, very nice. I am quite fond of the Elite series in particular. The stainless versions are noticeably heavier which may be a factor if you want to use it in competition.

Now that being said, the P30 (and P30L) represent the pinnacle or pistol development for the entire industry. The ergonomics are second to none and are quite unlike any other pistol out there. The interchangeable backstraps and side grip panels allow for a truly custom fit. The durable polymer frame makes for a very lightweight gun that still manages to have fairly minimal recoil. My preference is HK's proprietary LEM trigger, but many shooters are partial to the traditional SA/DA trigger of the V1 P30.

To truly appreciate the P30 design, you have to hold and shoot one. I'm confident that you will be sold if you get the chance to shoot one.

Hey guys don't want to start any problems within the ranks but I'm thinking of getting a 9mm and I have been hearing good things about both the P30 and the P229.
I have shot both of them but not consecutively and not nearly enough to decide. Anyone have anything they would like to add to help me decide?

If you end up deciding on a P229 I would highly suggest a model with the short reset trigger. I have the regular model and the trigger seems like what is an eternity to reset. Then I got to shoot the Elite and I was just blown away by it.
