Just as it reads, anyone ever hear, own, or know anything about a Beretta model 73. 22LR. I have the chance to buy one right now, and I know absoloutely nothing about it. What are they worth? is it a rare pistol or a collectible ? Are they accurate, reliable target pistols? should I stay clear ?

Here is a link of what they look like

They are rare but not really collectable. They are known to be accurate and reliable. A couple of members here have some nice examples.
How much and what condition? If you want extra mags go to Italy.

It is just the longer barrel version of the Model 71 which is a 12(6) prohib in Canada. Not sure on the value of a Model 73, which would be restricted but I paid a good buck for my Model 71 back in the day before there was a 12(6) designation. It is an extremely reliable and accurate pistol for a compact in .22lr and among what I consider to be "keepers".

I bought my Model 71 for $65 to beat the prohib ban. If anyone knows where there is a spare mag for it, let me know.

Also, could someone please tell me where the serial numbers are supposed to be on these things? The serial number on the one I have is, well, rather, suspect, and doesn't look like it should be there. It has been legally verified, and OK'ed though.

Have one that I bought for my son a couple years ago, paid about $250. It's very reliable and fun to shoot... my son can empty it in a couple seconds.
I don't know how collectible they are but I don't see many up for sale. I say go for it.

Okay, the model 73 I stumbled apon is in good shape, not perfect, but not abused. Just used. He wants $200 for it. Does that sound high, or a steal? Would they be a better target pistol than a ruger? As good as a S&W?

For $200 I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a smartie... :p

See the pic of my Model 71 above. You can see where the serial number is on the frame.

Prob worth $250-300 in good shape. Great guns, Light & reliable & accurate . Not as accurate as a ruger though...

I am working the guy for a better deal right now. I will let you guys know if I get it. I really like the look of these, very unique. Hopefully it will make a nice target pistol. I am kind of worried though about replacement parts and extra Magazines.

I had one with a 6" barrel I chopped to a "barely legal" length. I paid $275 for it and I think I sold it for over $400.

As for spare parts, the bottom of this page lists some of the 70 series models:

The only magazines I found were repo's at a place in the US that wouldn't ship to Canada.

Thats a sweet looking little pistol.

I agree with the above post. That pistol looks better, because the model 73 has a longer barrel, and it does look a bit out of proportion.

Mine has a 6" tube, and yeah, looks a bit funny. Quite accurate and dead reliable. It's small and light enough that first timers, especially youngsters and ladies find it fun

I have been trying to buy this from the guy, but he has changed his mind. Go figure.

I told him I will buy it off him for sure if he later on decides to sell it, so hopefully he will sleep on it for a while and get back to me. I really want this little sucker now that I see everyone believes its a nice little gun to have.
