What ammo were you shooting? Planning on doing some reloading for mine and see what they can really do.

Great rifles. Scary how advanced they were. It sure makes me appreciate how lucky we were that the Russians and Germans weren't still allies and were fighting it out on the Eastern front.

I was shooting Bell ammo 148gr bullets thier the best factory ammo I can find and they never give me feed issues.

Great something else to peak my interest! I don't have the time or money for all this fun stuff!!! :bangHead:

Tell me about it, that gun has kept me up at night for the last year and threads like this are not helping. If my bank account only had $400 more in it, I'd be skipping over to the gun store right now. The worst part about it is that I keep buying up all the 7.62x54r surplus I can find and tell myself: "It's for your Mosin", but secretly, I'm saving up so I have a few hundred rounds for the SVT40

Think of a Tok as a prototype for the FAL. They both tap off LOTS of gas to run the thing and VENT what they don't use.

If your brass is being destroyed, your rifle is USING too much gas and needs to VENT more; that's what the gas adjust is all about.

Port Pressure is the secret here, combined with duration..... just like a steam engine. Slow, heavy bullets and slow powders are a recipe for high port pressures. Fast powders and light bullets (as loaded in most military ammo) give you lower port pressures, especially if the gas port is 'way to hell and gone out in front, as on the Tok.

Just vent more gas. You need the gas-port adjustment tool.

As to wrecking your brass, just how bad is it? If it's just a dented case, go ahead and resize and reload the stuff. It will blow out in the first 1/2500 of a second after you squeeze the triggers, sealing the breech once again as the thing builds pressure and blows the bullet down the barrel. Your brass seals the chamber at very low pressure levels. A dented casing is no great hazard, just as long as it isn't completely crushed.

Adjustable gas plug on the Tok prevents too much gas from hitting the piston.

SAFN-49 vents the darned stuff, makes a jeck of a flash if you dhoot it at night with the front handguard off.

My misteak. Bad me.

Sorry, guys; spent too much time thinking on the glories of the ordinary battleaxe.
