Are any stores currently selling non-franken-pinned SKS?

Subject says it all ;) Any left at retail, or am I stuck with the EE?

Last time I tried to buy one, I had a collector-grade order in with Frontier for an unissued SKS - there was a shipping error and I got sent a rusted-out shooter grade. Kinda soured me on the whole thing and I went away from the SKS for a while.

Might be interested again, but not for a franken-pin.

My guess...

This is not by any means fact, but if I am correct I think the first shipment by IZH was the only non frankenpinned imports to hit Canada. You might be able to find a straggler at a dealer who has one or two "good style" pinned mags but it may be hard.

As far as I know the other two shipments (Bell and Lever) were all frankenpinned and the bulk of what you see at the dealers now are the Lever shipment. Good Luck, watch the EE

Non defaced mag

Look everywhere, just bought a VERY nice 1950 with mostly original parts off EE. Nicest SKS since anyone will handpick one for you. Has the follower mod so I have the original serial number on the mag. Many thanks to Lee, one of our members for the EE deal.

Frankenpin

Easy, the follower had a welded pin and you can read the original serial number on the bottom of the mag shell, Frankenpin, a steel stack welded to the bottom of the magazine and the serial number restamped on the side of the mag shell.
Can someone post pics of the "Frankenpin" ? :)

Lever has the nicely pinned Chinese versions that you could restamp the bottom with the correct serial number. They are around $25 and switching back to to the Russian one would be simple enough. You may have to do a slight modification to get them to fit but a dremel would do it in 20 or 30 seconds.

True, only the first container brought in by IZH-Impex were pinned on shore. Everything since then, the two Bell shipments, second IZH-Impex,Lever,Westrifle,and the newest importation that the Lebaron ones are from have all been pinned in country of purchase. Unless some importer like Westrifle can get the method changed,we're stuck with franken-pinning. At least the newest shipment is EP'd instead of restamped on the mag.

wont be easy matching the fonts, not to mention the cyrillic letters.

Hello All,

This issue will not be settled here. This needs time to be fixed and a few trips oversea. Like I said before I will try my best to do that for you

I would be interested in this, can you elaborate just what is involved in making a Chinese mag cover fit a Ruskie? So for $25 Leverarms is selling Chinese mag covers with a small pin instead of a welded stack? Can you please post a picture of these mags? Are they made of steel and blued metal? Would they match the blueing on a Tula Russian well enough?

I am not interested in re-stamping a number on, just a blank mag cover nicely pinned would be great!!!

Here is the info I found:

"Remember, when installing or removing an SKS magazine, the Bolt MUST be open to avoid damaging the magazine..
If you are having problems installing an SKS magazine,
SKS Magazines can only be installed and removed from the SKS with the bolt locked in the open position, if this does not solve the problem, the next question is, with the front of the magazine locked into position, is it that the back end of the magazine is hitting the trigger group not allowing it to seat all the way into position? If this is the case, you may have to slightly file the leading edge of the magazine until it will pivot into place."

I thought I should mention the lever-arms versions are like new or are new so the rust you see in the picture isn't the ones they are selling. The picture was from another site.

Cheers

Im sorry, soo the magazines at Leverarms are all steel or aluminum? Are they stamped with any numbers? Do they come with the entire magazine setup and follower arm or is it just the magazine cover?

No Al and they are complete with the follower that has a riveted pin through the bottom. No stampings either. If all else fails you can convert them into a zippo and still not be out any money.

Anyone looked inside the mag of the Norinco SKSs being sold by Frontier and how they're pinned?

I had occasion to handle an SKS that was "frankenpinned" and I was truly horrified. A follower block would have been just as effective and wouldn't have essentially ruined a matching serial number magazine.
