Same as 6.5x57 ? Would you neck down 7x57 or neck up 257 roberts ?

I have a little bit of data about this cartridge...seems rcbs still makes dies.

Anybody have any notes or information to share ? I guess 6.5x55 starting data would probably work if push comes to shove ?

Any info is appreciated.

No its not.

The .257 Roberts is a necked down 7x57 Mauser case, which is slightly smaller than the 6.5x55 Swede case is at the head.

Correct,

and after further research its not even the same as 6.5x57 as the shoulder angle is different

What i have seemed to pickup is its an Old wildcat from 40's and 50's - Typically used for rechambering Type 38 Arisakas.....with no other change...and hopefully done with a proper reamer.

Getting dies without an expensive custom order will be a challenge....may have to let this idea go.

Well, Ive got the Arisaka in 6.5x257 and 7x57 brass on the way here and by luck I found the correct FL sizer on ebay.

Dont think it will do anything my 6.5x55 wont do but this should be fun tinkering with. Ever since since I read some of P.O Ackley's reports I always wanted an Arisaka....I just wasnt' all that interested the original chamberings .

There are quite a few older European rifles in 6.5X57. A few years ago, I helped a friend find load data for one, unfortunately the info is lost. The parent case is 7X57. Its slightly smaller in volume than the 6.5X55, somewhere around 2%, so you can reduce the 6.5X55 loads accordingly.

I should of mentioned I have found quite enough data to get started. I have a thread on 24 hour campfire and some guys who shooting that cal have responded with some notes. I also found the 6.5x57 Arcticles published in Pet Loads by Ken waters that are helpful .

Ill try to keep this thread updated with some of my notes / data in case anybody else needs it.
