Hi.
The markings on the left side of the receiver are limited at:
-the arsenal: 625 in a triangle
-serial number: 1510###

The 3 chinese caracters that are usualy stamped on that part of the receiver are not present and there is absolutely no other markings at all.
Is the lack of Chinese caracters has a special signification?
Thanks

Arms made for export or People's Militia (or armed units of the Red Guards during the cultural revolution. They took over whole arms plants in places) use will usually not have the marking. No hard and fast rules. a Type 56 was a Type 56 to the PLA and all versions would be used if needed.

I have photos of other 625 code

they also omitted the standard 56 type (chinese characters) In China the system for manufacture is that plants all over the country provide parts for whatever is needed by The pla some of these parts are stamped and some milled. There also seems to be no real supervision on how the receivers are marked. The factorys produce the parts and the parts are shipped to assembly shops. What guideance they have in the various small shops that assemble and stamp these guns may not be very strict. Also I have been told that many of the over 150 known factory codes can be found coming out of the same shop (not known whether the factory codes actually are used to show where the gun is going) With Chinese ammo you can find a multitude of headstamps that would make you belive allot of plants make ammunition. MY belief is that the sks factory codes and ammuniton factory codes all are used to make the production in China look larger than it really is. The one Factory that has been found to be well managed is the factory triangle 26 or also known as factory 296 or in recent years 0296 found on some M21 late manufacture guns. Manmy odd layouts on receivers exist when my factory code chart gets posted here it will show a few. anybody who would like to contribute serial numbers and factory codes to me I will add them to my list and if you have a code and want to know how many other serial numbers are know I would be glad to let you know what I have. please if you would like to contribute give me the whole number no ###xs know one will know who provided the numbers.

howie, according to my research factory 26 didnt make any late production SKS so i dont think 0296 is theirs.

yes in fact they did make late guns

all sks carbines with the late phenolic hand guards and really beautifull fit and finish done with serial numbers in 23,24 million range 1980 1981 and you will find a triangle stamp on wood stock under serial number location left side with a number in it were done by that factory also they must have assemble quite a number from parts useing M21 receivers marked 0296 (triangle 26 is in fact called factory number 296) M21 receivers also can be found with 416 factory code Triangle 26 was the factory that produced the original Vietnam era guns with serial numbers starting with No and number no factory marks

i consider 1980-81 factory 26 production as mid-poduction , rather than a late production.

when you say late production , what do you mean? do you a period? or certain features of the rifle?

from what I understand

the 1980s production was the last of the production of Military contract guns I understand now what you are refering to by late date. The sks was pretty much done once the ak started to be manufactured in large quantity. They had produced enough to arm all their people and manage any off shore contracts. I wouldnt be surprised they sold all of what they had in the 90s The phenolic hand guard ones are really top shelf in fit and finish. That style hand guard was used on the type 63 or 68 which ever you choose.
