i was just reading another thread about weak aluminum recievers in the 10/22 and got to thinking about something i hadn't even considered, that when i refinished my old lakefield 64 the reciever is most certainly steel and not aluminum as was apparent by the amount of rust i removed from it. does savage make them out of steel still or was this a lakefield and cooey thing? i must say that makes me like this gun alot more knowing it can handle hotter loads without damaging the reciever.

Anybody know if the Marlin 60 is aluminum or steel?

Just checked mine....it is aluminum.

FYI, AR receivers are also aluminum...different grade I'm sure, but still aluminum.
.223 rounds are 50,000 psi cartridges.

Ability to shoot hot loads depends on design more than the material a receiver is made from. I'm confident a Marlin 60 or Ruger aluminum receiver will take any type of .22LR with no issues, unless the manufacturer cautions against the same.
