Husqvarna, still made?

I was lamenting a few weeks back in another thread on Husqvarna rifles about a "Husky" Model H-5000 I once owned in .308 Win that was probably the most accurate .308 Win I ever had and regreted selling it.

I then got a PM from a fellow CGN'er who advised that he had one just as I had described, including the wood stock with the schnabel forend, and would sell it. Long story short it arrived in the mail in due course. When I opened up the box I at first was convinced I had my old rifle back. But a check of the serial numbers from my records confirmed that the new addition was in fact a few hundred serial numbers newer.

Then this past weekend a decent Husvarna Model 7000 featherweight in .30-06 Springfield made an appearance at the local gunshop. It came complete with a nice Leupold Model 8 fixed 4x scope. The stock being very similar to the one on the H-5000 model except this one also has a cheek piece on the butt stock. Yeah, it came home with me, too.... :)

Husqvarnas are beautiful rifles.

Personally, I could see making a collection of them.

NAA.

In the mid 1960s I was in the firearms business and we sold the rifle you describe, with the schnabel forend and the word "Husky" imprinted on the barrel.
At $125 retail, it was the lowest priced Husqvarna rifle, as well as the lightest in weight. I looked at it as the entry level Husqvarna, in spite of so many reports about its great accuracy from people who had bought them. The result was I didn't get one for myself, one of my all time regrets.
It probaly was the lightest in weight of any bolt action on the market that was chambered in the 30-06/270 class and the barrel was a bit shorter than the other Husqvarna models.
Hard to imagine a better mountain rifle.

Aaahhh, I should have bought that gun when I had the chance.:bangHead:
I keep my eye out for another one now

The second I recently purchased from 'Why not?' on this site. It's a model1651 Special in 358 Norma Magnum.

Needless to say, I'm glad you didn't.

What I've been trying to 'locate' was a 358 NM in a Schultz & Larsen. That was one of the big three efforts of co-operation between Norma and Schultz & Larsen. The 7x61 S&H and 308 NM I already have. There've been a couple of 358 NM's made by other manufacturers I've passed up but when I saw this Husqvarna, I couldn't resist. Besides, it's a good mate for the '06 Lightweight I inherited from my Dad;).

Over the past few gun shows I've acquired seven boxes of Norma factory 250gr ammo and a set of RCBS dies in preparation for acquiring a 358 NM. Some bullets, a set of Redding dies and a 3-9 Leupold VX-II were also part of the package deal.

With a break in the weather on Saturday, I got the opportunity to go 'try' it out and I was pleasantly satisfied with this first result.

I look forward to 'emptying out' somemore brass and working up reloads. I have some Barnes TTSX on the way as well.

A 7 x 57 in that rifle would be sweet. I'm surprised at how many Husky's Tradex has. If there is one thing they have in common it is that people hunted hard with them and did all kinds of mods to make them the way they liked them.

Having had a Smith and Wesson, Mossberg, Husqvarna and Howa all side by side. They appear to be the same rifle. The S&W,Mossy and Husky are all about mid 1970's. the Howa was a 1990's

Husqvarna did make some rifles for S&W in the 60s. After that Howa made the 1500 for them and also for Mossberg. Howa never made anything for HVA. Krico did,but Howa did'nt.

They also made rifles for J.C. Higgins I think they were the models 50 and 51. 640 action I believe.

Pretty sure that when they went to using the commercial Husqvarna action, they called it the Model 51. Mine was in 30-06. I gave it to the SIL of a really good friend of mine two years ago.

My Dad had a model 50 with HVA markings.

Okay, I'll ask Myles to bring it out next time I am over there.

Was your dad's a large ring or small ring. The 51 is a small ring.

Ted

I am pretty sure it was a small ring. I wish I new what happened to it. When he passed it was missing. I still have his 3100 Crown Grade.
