So I am going to get around to having a scope mounted to my remington 223 varmint tomorrow... My first choice was the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 tactical. I want to learn how to use the mil dot and turrets just for fun. Plan on shooting targets and gophers, etc....... but the local store doesn't have any in stock and I'm thinking of not waiting. So my other option would be to get the Leupold MK4 LR/T 4.5-14x40. I've had a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 and now i have a Leupold VX3 3-9x40. Both nice but I do like the ease of finding my target in the Leupold. For the extra 300 bucks for the Leupold tacticle I'm thinking it might be worth it in the long run.

The Bushnell would run me around $840, the Leupold $1170.

Any comments?

I have a Bushy 6500 2.5-16 tac, great scope, but if you have the money for a MK4 LR/T 4.5-14x40 buy it and dont look back.

I went back and forth between the leupy 6.5 20x50 and the bushy tactical 6500 4.5-30x50 and the leaupy held clairty throught its power range and the bushy started to blur up past 20x:confused: Im a bushnell fan and expect much more from a new $900 scope from them. Check out the new leaupy Im extreamly happy with it.
How do you add attachments? (Pics)

I found the clarity also to be way better on the Leupold. It seems to me only the cheaper scope manufacturers offer the huge magnification spread. It looks good on paper but in the field you can only use the high mag under ideal conditions. Any low light situation and forget it. I shot a Coyote with my 6.5-20X50 LRT the other day at last light and I had a brighter image through the scope than with my eyes. I think the Leupold's are well worth the extra money. I found my 6.5-20 NIB on the EE for 1375 which is not much more than the 6500.

I ended up with the Leupold 4.5-14x40 MK4 PR/T. The reticle was super clear and it was easy to eye-up. Even over the MK2 tacticle I looked at, the MK4 was noticably better. More magnification in the form of a different MK4 wasn't worth the price difference for what I'll be using it for. The one I picked up was about $1140, the bigger MK4's I think started around 2k. Not saying Bushnell isn't good and doesn't have their place (I used an Elite 3200 3-9x40 for a couple years with no major issues), but I'm happy with my purchase.

Leupold is the way to go the best warrenty to date... I do like Bushnell but there warrenty is very slow I'm not s**tting you just talked to a guy 3 days ago complaining that his bushnell is still not returned after Nov /09 for repair.. Could you wait this long? Now I know that Leupold will warrenty there products even after 30+ years which I know Bushnell won't.

bottom line you pay more for a Leupold but the cost is worth the warrenty 100%

Prophet River (Clay is a board sponsor) is an excellent guy to deal with for guns and things. You might want to try him.

Got a new scope today at wholesale&Sport, bushnell tactical 6500 4.5-30x50, price are $900plus tax, got it for Outfitter price for $850, very clear, comparable to NF, took it outside and check the glass across the Road, very clear.

Comparable to which NF? How is the clarity at 30X?
