choke for slugs?

Anything other than FULL. And truthfully, any modern full choke should be able to handle a slug, but accuracy will blow.
In my experience, I get best accuracy with IC or LM (or even MOD). Cylinder isn't the best, in my experience.
Or, a rifled choke tube if you're using rifled slugs.
The slugs I'd recommend? Well, it depends for what purpose! Always 2 3/4", as 3" is just more BOOM and recoil for very little gain. One less in the tube too, usually with 3". Brennekes for bear defence, and the cheapest ones I can find if I'm just blasting!

In my time it was always said that the more open the choke the better it was for slugs.It would seem from the above posts that this may no longer be true.Could be a slight choke such as improved cylinder may be best.Maybe the improved slugs of late years have caused this change.
I second the Challenger slug recommendation. A bit pricey, but quite accurate. The plastic "thingamajig" attached at the back of the slug seems to stabilize its flight. Shooting freehand, I was able to achieve 3 shot 2 inch groups at 60 yards, through open sights with a slug barrel. That should be good enough for a typical shot at a deer in the woods.

Whatever you use, make sure you have a choke in. Never, never shoot your shotgun without a choke. This could damage your choke threads.
My 870 with a 20" rifle sighted barrel shoots slugs best with the modified choke tube installed; about 1.5" groups at 50 yards compared with about 2-2.5" with the improved cylinder choke.

I remember when that used to be the thought. As there does not seem to be a definate standard in bore dimensions for modern guns best accuracy seems to vary depending on individual firearm, choke, ammo combo. For standard rifled slugs, try them all including the full. Cylinder and improved cylinder used to be the choice when buck shot was on the menu.
Every box of buckshot I have picked up said best shot through improved mod or full choke.

i agree with the challenger slugs but they dont kick that much
