the phantom is widely recommended but does not have adjustable sights---how important is this in pistols---

what other options are there in this price range----

Good gun choice! .40 is a little more nasty than of 9mm but still not bad. A little more is a Shadow or CZ 85 combat which is great gun of great guns. Adjustable sight didn't really matter because pistol shooting is about focus on the front sight.

i am coming from shotguns--so pls excuse some dumb questions:::

what is better in the shadow/85 combat over the phantom---thanks--

I own a CZ75 in 9mm and it's a nice handgun to shoot. That being said, I have also shot a CZ Shadow and it feels almost recoil less! Sight acquisition and follow up shots are easy and it's a comfortable gun.

It depends on what you intend to do with the pistol. If you are looking at IPSC and you reload then the Shadow has advantages over both the CZ 85 Combat and the Phantom due to it's weight and ability to soak up recoil.

If you are looking at IDPA then a lighter gun has some advantages and certainly the Phantom will perform in that arena well. I am not sure the Phantom comes in .40cal. You might want to check that out. CZ only lists it in 9MM on their website. I haven't shot the Phantom but handled one last summer. The grip for me was even better than the Shadow and certainly would be a gun I would take a hard look at if I was looking for another gun to shoot IDPA.

If you intend to shoot both sports then the CZ 85 Combat is a nice compromise.

Take Care
