So today I went out with my 10/22 and I hit the 3,000 mark for shots fired. The only issue its that now the last 2 times I have went shooting with it just about 50% of my rounds are an FTE. I cleaned it really well last night and lubbed it up a little to see if that would stop the issue but it hasn't fixed it at all. I have always used the same ammo for the gun.....either 38 or 40 grain Federal ammo and it used chug along just fine and maybe 1 or 2 FTE/FTF in 100 rounds. Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks, UTAF

x3...cheap and easy to install too. There is a trick. Put a sandwich bag over you hand and the parts area incase the spring gets loose. You will never ever find it if it does.

See CGN is full of useful info and helping hands. I have to admit the one thing that is a must on 10/22's is an extractor upgrade if you intend on putting alot of rounds through it. I would also say that since you have it aprt throw a buffer in it.

Definitely sounds like your extractor is worn....

Either the VQ Exact Edge or the PC 10/22 A2 Claw will both work...

My 10/22 would only fire one kind of ammo since it was new with the original extractor. Installed the Volquartsen extractor and it will eat any ammo I feed it.

If your going to get a buffer check into the "tuffer Buffer" its the best one I have ever used on my 10/22, plus they are canadian made..... fabsports should have them

mine is doing the same thing.

i figured it was the extractor, as i just put a power custom trigger package in and it never did it before.

hawktech arms carries buffers. i would go with them before rimfiresports.

Tuffer buffers - you can get them on Ebay, or direct from the makers too. I think I paid 20 bucks for 5, and they arrived in 3 days in the mail.

Just so you are aware - Hawktech doesn't offer free shipping anymore. I ended up ordering mine from rimfire sports but I will say their time to ship is wayyyy longer than hawktechs. I haven't recieved it yet but they did charge my card 1 week after ordering.

Another vote for the VQ extractor, it turned my Jammomatic 10/22 (FTE stovepiping)into a fun unit that eats anything. And yes, rimfiresports has VQ buffers as well - more $$ than the others, but in the same order and free shipping, I though it the best deal at the time. My order was even shipped very quickly - maybe I really am special.

thanks for the heads-up.

Better than the auto bolt release.

I did that mod, and used it exactly twice.

Why would I need to hold the bolt open manually? It doesn't do it on the last round, so what's the point?

Some folks might find it handy, but I could care less about that one. The extractor, buffer and target hammer are the best cheap mods. New barrel is the BEST mod, but not the cheapest. :)

And maybe an extended mag-release.....:yingyang:

Dunno; I seldom lock the bolt back on the 10//2 that's "stock"..:D

haha I told you! once you go Volq you never go back. Seriously, best 12 dollars you can spend for your 10/22 by far.

True, true......

Even with a VQ extractor, dirt can get in the extractor mechanism. Remove the extractor that pin and spring and clean it and reassemble. That might fix your problem without buying anything.
