XDM .40 Just Arrived Today (pics o-plenty)

may i ask, what is the difference between an XD and an XDM,other than price.Thanks.

The main difference is the XDM has a "match grade" barrel and a higher level of finish on the feed ramp. Also, as mentioned, the adjustable backstrap. One other thing of note is the slide on the XDM is tapered from the top down and the XD is stepped out. This may not seem worth mentioning, but my wife found the slide on the XD much easier to grasp the the tapered XDM slide.

As for the price... cough... choke... holy crap...! The XDM in stainless can be had for $549 usd down in Arizona. We paid $459 for the XD in stainless! I could understand this huge mark-up if it was a prohibited gun, but the Service Model has a 4.5" barrel which means anyone can import it for $25.00 plus the GST. Wonder where all the extra $$$ go?

only $25 to import? i wonder how much hassle you have to go through though. but we're talking like $500 difference. if you're not in a hurry and know how to import firearms then go for it! I just wasn't patient enough to wait for this gun, and i heard it could take up to 6 months before you get your firearm.

Wow if thats true that a handgun goes almost double here in Canada then in the states. I have to say thats very discouraging to me being a future firearm owner. Im not rich, so $500 more for a handgun is alot of money to be spending extra.

Not all, but for some, yes the price can be double

Are you close to Buffalo, get it at BGC, 100 bucks for the paper work, and the drive to the border to get the firearm, very simple, and with the dollar almost at par, it might even go over the US dollar, it's a good time to buy......

Wow! This is one good looking gun.
Just went to the Springfield site and checked out all the specs and slides! Love it!

I'm still looking for my first gun, and unfortunately I don't think this will be it (because of the price) but it's definitely one for the future!

Does anyone know how much BGC wants for the XDM? My kids & I just shot the all-black .40 we got this week and I think we need 2 more. :D

I shot a 9mm 3 months ago & was very impressed. I liked the .40 even better: not a single FTF/FTE, and the gun was very accurate from the very 1st shot. The trigger pull seems excessive, but only on the 1st shot, after that it feels almost like SRT.

I wish it was cheaper, but have no regrets whatsoever! :dancingbanana:

No XDM at BGC, they have the same 10 round restriction as we do, so they have none as of yet, it will be available once SA decides to make a 10 round mag. I don't think they will be looking at getting someone to pin mags so they can get them in faster, it's too bad.

I will wait, as is my buddy, what guys are currently spending on one, we will end up with 2 for the same price....

Once it is available, it will be around the 500 dollar mark, I would guess

As they say, good things comes to those who wait...

how much are the XD's right now? still around 800 new. i highly doubt the xdms will go that low (in canada).

it's the last gun i buy for a really long time, i'm getting tired (and broke) from buying gun after gun after gun... time to put a stop to this madness and get really good at shooting what I have now.

Wishful thinking, IMO. Who is to say what's too many? I know it's illogical to have more than two - we, on average, have two hands. ;)

My kids already know my weakness, and they make fun at my expense. If I mention a handgun we don't have, they'd say "you have to buy it". If I say I'd like to buy an XYZ handgun, they go "why do you need so many guns?". :D

FYI: I only have four. For now. The last two (a .40XDM and a Jericho 941) came this week... ;)

If only it were that easy, if it was there would be 25 forsale signs posted on this site for XDM's.

Before you badmouth the couple of us that have gone through the trouble and expense of importing hard to get firearms from the US, please take the time to learn the facts of importing first. It's not a 25 dollar permit, the US State dept. alone charges $250 per transaction to qualified businesses, and the qualified business does not do the US paperwork for free, not including the great deal of work it takes from the Canadian side.

Yeah the website is on the to-do list, so when a little time is found on that long list I will create something a lot more useful.

Will be paying my dealer due's for the site in the near future, then you guys can drive me nutzs to your hearts content.

Spare mags for the XDM are way behind, as I understand it the manufacture cannot keep up to production on guns shipping out, so there is no spares at this time, but as soon as they become available I will post up to get an idea of what every wants. These XDM's are going to be very popular in stock class, so I will stay on top of it.

Now get your butt to the range and go shoot that new toy!

Hey Darren, welcome to CGN! And PLEASE, pay no attention to negative comments. Those of us who wanted the XDM badly enough are VERY happy, so if you did manage to make a few bucks - good for you! I hope to be doing business with you real soon, it was a pure pleasure!

I shot my .40 XDM yesterday & couldn't believe how accurate it was and how good it felt in my hands. My kids loved it too. I seem to be re-acquiring the sights faster than with my 9mm guns, which is totally awesome for a synthetic frame gun.

When you get the next shipment, please save the next .40 in SS for me! ;)

I've been a Glock guy for a very long time, but after playing with the XDM I actually had change whats been on hip for the last couple years, and you nailed the description, out of the box I've never had an auto feel so good shot to shot.
I know this sounds very self promoting, but the comments from customers when they see that I no longer have a Glock on my hip is hilarious and really sinks home how much I like this product.

New XD right now, about 500, XDm's will be about the same or a touch higher
(in USA)

Sorry, but I cannot justify 900 dollars for a polymer gun, my XD brand new was under 500 from the US, my TRP was just over 1500, so spending over 900 on a XDm is not something I wish to do.

I can wait......

Before you bad mouth a member on this forum and or a potential customer, perhaps you need to take the time to read and get your facts straight.

I never said it's 25 dollars for the permit !

I don't even know or care what the State Dept charges per transaction to a qualified business.

What I can tell you for certainty is Buffalo Gun Center charges 100 dollars US to do all the paperwork (ALL) this is the US export paper work, and they even get the Canadian Import paper, and they have been doing this for years.

I had to do nothing, but pick out the firearm I wanted, put down a deposit, give them my personal information, and wait for the call to come and pick up the firearm once all paper work was completed on their end, and I was mailed by Canada my Import Certificate

the only thing I did was call the CFO to register the gun in my name, and get a STATT to bring the firearm home from the border.

I don't see a great deal of work in this at all, and if there is any, 99% of the work was done by BGC.

And if I purchased a 2nd or 3rd or what ever it's now 75 dollars (used to be 50) for each additional pistol for their time to do the paperwork so that I can bring my firearm home.....

Hopefully I have clarified this a bit for you and all others

.
