.40sw caliber

Hi, i would like to have your input,
I have guns and pistol of different caliber, starting by 22lr, up to 357. I never shot with pistol in .40sw caliber, is it a good feeling to shot? Do you prefer 9mm? Give me your feelings and opinions, thats gone light up my track,,,,, Forget my poor english, best regard!
 
For some reason I like .45 over .4 and .4 over 9mm. shoot 9mm just because 9mm case can be all over the place at the range for free. The best still is .45 acp but the case is not cheap at all. 38+p is the most fun round to boot.

I have guns in .22, .357, 9mm, .40 and .45. The .45 is the most fun with a very solid feel in the hand when the gun goes off. .40 is very close in the feel of the .45. You know you have been shooting after a couple hundred rounds of .40 or .45 in an afternoon.

40S&W is closer to the feel of the 45ACP, but 9mm is much cheaper to shoot. I don't think you can go wrong with either three in all truth.

I have a 9mm beretta, and am not enjoy with it, am looking for .40, and asking if is really a better thrill, i know ammo is a little bit expansive, and would like to be sure .40 is a good challenge, and fun to shoot.:ar15:
 
To answer the OP's question on "good feeling", in a lightweight pistol like my Norinco NP58 (which is a Sig 226 clone), shooting .40 S&W to me feels almost like shooting 357 magnums in my S&W 686. I shoot 40 cal reloads with 4.7 grains Titegroup under 175 grain LSWC.

I much rather prefer the recoil feel of a 1911 Government shooting hardball over the NP58/40cal.

Is the 40 fun? You betcha. For casual shooting yes, but for competition, I think you are better off with a 45 or a 9.

IMO the 40's only advantage over the 45 is plentiful brass.
 
According to the Boston Gun Bible, 40 delivers about 90 % of the energy of 45, but because many law enforcement use 40, brass if very plentiful. Very good compromise between 45 and 9 mm.

If you want energy in a pistol, go for 10 mm. Mucho bang for the buck. Brass is expensive though.

Now that depends on what kind of competition shooting you're talking about. The .45 is too slow cycling and too much recoil, (IMO) for IPSC, not to mention that you'll be at a disadvantage with most .45 because of being limited to 7 or 8 round mags.

All depends what you want to do with it.
 
A light framed .40 like a Ruger P90 has roughly the same kick as my forged Norinco 1911A1. .40 is definitely cheaper to shoot, too. But being a history buff I always wanted the .45, so I bought it and am very happy with it. They're both fun to shoot, depends on whether you want an older gun like a 1911 or something newer.

Either is way more fun than .22 or 9.
 
I like 9mm, I like .40 S&W, I like 10mm but I like .45ACP best of all..... :cool:

I guess you are right. Last time I shot in comp was 18 years ago. Then, we could shoot accurate quick double taps, in stock (uncompensated) 1911s with major PF reloads or FMJ milspec 45 acp sometimes provided by the military which sponsored many shoots back in my old country.

Using a lightweight 40 cal pistol, I don't think I can do the same. The second tap would miss for sure or take almost a second (at my skill level). Having more rounds in the mag is always an advantage though.
 
I've shot 1911's in 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP. The .40 has more of a snap than the .45 which to me feels more like a strong push. The 9 has a snap too but not as much as the .40. In 1911's I enjoy the 9mm and the .45ACP. While the .40 version shoots well somehow I just didn't like it as much. Oddly enough I like the S&W M&P in .40 over the 9mm. Something I would not have expected since these are a lighter gun so the recoil SHOULD be worse. But somehow the M&P and .40 just works for me and the gun was nice to shoot and grouped amazingly well. I'm not sure why this is but perhaps it's something to do with a lucky ideal mating of the recoil spring and the slide weight in that particular version or maybe just that one particular gun.

Your clearly expose your opinions:) In pistol i only shot 22, and9, in revolver my prefer caliber is 38spl, good feeling, accurate, and not too expensive. I starting this thread, cause am seriously looking to buy, a glock 22 in 40sw. That seem to me a good compromise between 9 and .45acp, thrill, and also for my wallet!!! Am a newbies, in the gun world, your opinions and input are very precious for me,thanks for your help. In my dreams, and nightmares, i cannot imagine how shooting was fun, no drugs can give this thrill!!!!!!! I have fun too shoot, and also too cleaning my gun!!

iam somewhat of a newbie and have a S&W mp40. it fits and feels better than any other ive tryed.... comes down to personal choice. do yourself a big favor, whatever you end up with, get yourself a speed loader and save those thumbs.

Our range in Mcmurray is paved with quality 9 mm brass.
Thanks to the rcmp who shoot there. They never pick up brass;)

Fish cops use 40. But rare to see them out shooting.

If you like to shoot lots and are not rich consider the free brass aspect...

My favorite round is the .45 but I can't afford to shoot it as much as I would like. I mainly shoot 9mm but also do shot .40 S & W. I find the .40 a pleasure to shoot. The only thing I find is that is tends to recoil a lot more in my shooting finger which is kind of annoying after a while.

you should test fire the glock first. to me, there is no thrill in shooting a double action. Compare a glock to a 1911 and you will take the 1911.
